Vidya Balan is undoubtedly one of the most-versatile actresses in Bollywood today. She has successfully managed to express a gamut of emotions in films that are as different as chalk and cheese. Be it her oomph overdose avatar in ‘Dirty Picture’, her mysterious-cum-susceptible role of a pregnant woman in ‘Kahaani’ or her well-sketched role of a working urban woman in the recently released ‘Shaadi ke Side Effects’, Vidya has always managed to carve a niche for herself. Her eyes, shining as bright as a blazing star, and her facial features akin to the embodiment of a perfect rose, complete in form and fragrance, ensues her ethnic beauty to the tee.
The 36-year-old actress, who got married to UTV head honcho Siddharth Roy Kapur in 2012, has a number of Filmfare awards too in her kitty. Marriage, however, hasn’t deterred the actress’ spirits, as she continues to have some exciting projects in the pipeline. Let’s have a look at some of her upcoming films –
Bobby Jasoos – Bobby Jasoos is an upcoming fast-paced thriller directed by Samar Shaikh and produced by Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha under the banner of Born Free Entertainment. It is slated to release in the summer of 2014. Music of the film has been composed by Shantanu Moitra (of 3 Idiots fame). Regarding this project, Dia Mirza said in an interview, "The script of Bobby Jasoos bears testimony to the fact that being patient and investing in good stories usually reaps good dividends.” Vidya is going to play a role of lady detective in this film. The film’s first look was launched in December last year; it showcases one of the quintessential elements of the film wherein Vidya appears in a beggar-like avatar outside a railway station in Hyderabad. Rumor mills have it that while she was sitting in this attire, a lady who was just passing by stopped at her to offer some money, thinking that she’s actually some beggar! If this sign is anything to go by, we won’t be surprised if Vidya earns some more plaudits for this project.
Humari Adhuri Kahani – Hamari Adhuri Kahani is an upcoming Bollywood produced by Mahesh Bhatt, under the banner Vishesh Films, Fox Star Studios, and directed by Mohit Suri. It also stars Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao. Mohit Suri, who is currently on cloud nine following the monstrous hit Aashiqui 2, brings back the successful jodi back for the third time, after Dirty Picture and Ghanchakkar. The film was initially slated to go on floors in May. However, it has now been postponed to October owing to illness of Emraan Hashmi’s four year- old son Ayan. Mohit describes this love triangle as an "emotional drama" or an "endless, timeless love story which needs a third person to complete it". He also promises to revisit and bring back memories of eternal love stories of the ‘60s and ‘70s like Kaagaz Ke Phool and Kati Patang in a more contemporary package with this film. Rumors are rife that the film will be hugely-inspired by Mahesh’s Bhatt’s life.
Vidya was initially supposed to be a part of Sujoy Ghosh’s next film, an edge-of-the-seat thriller co-starring Irrfan Khan. But owing to pregnancy rumors, she has been reportedly replaced by Kangana Ranaut. Well, whatever be the case, Vidya’s fans can be rest assured that she has a few forthcoming female-centric power-packed roles in her kitty, a far cry from the arm candy like roles that most of the established actresses prefer signing up for. She might not be having a choc-a-bloc schedule, but she certainly has the ex-factor. Atta Girl!
