One of the best advantages of being an actor is that he/she can work in different film industries. They don’t have to necessarily restrict themselves to working on only one film industry/movie. And if their performances grab the attention of the audience, they become stars in that film industry. They go on to star in several regional films as well. The leading ladies of the Malayalam film industry charm the audience with their looks and their performances, and make a mark in several film industries. One such example is the Kannada film industry. We bring you a list of Malayalam film heroines who made a place for themselves.


Amala Paul is a proof that  the career of an actress isn’t over after she has tied the knot. After making a mark in the Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil film industries, the stunning ‘Myna’ actress will soon make her debut in Sandalwood. She will play the lead opposite Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep. Now that’s something! You go, girl!


Nayanthara was born in Bangalore, to Malayali Syrian Christian parents. Which may be why the actress decided to make her debut, by starring in a Malayalam movie (Manassinakkare). But that didn’t stop her from working in films of other languages. The actress made her Sandalwood debut with the film Super, which starred Kannada cinema’s popular star, Upendra in the lead was a blockbuster. We hope she signs on a new Kannada film very soon. She is currently the reigning Queen of the Tamil film industry. 


Apart from starring in Malayalam and Tamil film, Bhavana made a mark in Sandalwood as well. She made her Sandalwood debut in Jackie opposite Puneeth Rajkumar in 2010, and went on to work with several top league Kannada actors including Upendra, Sudeep, and Ganesh.

One of Kannada cinema’s more popular actresses, Priyamani has starred in over close to a dozen Kannada films. She made her debut with the film Pravarakhyudu. However, her breakthrough performance in Kannada was in the film Chaarulatha, for which she won the Filmfare, SIIMA and Suvarna film awards respectively. 


In a career spanning over a decade, Nithya Menen has done some memorable films in the south film industry. Born in Bangalore, Nithya Menen made her Kannada debut with the film Seven O’ Clock. Since then, she went on to work in several films like Aidondla Aidu, Myna, Josh and Idondla Aidu. She has even rendered two songs in Kannada. Her upcoming film  Kotigobba 2 will see her star opposite Kichcha Sudeep.


Although only a few films old, Karthika Nair has starred in noteworthy Tamil and Telugu films. Daughter of actress Radha, and niece of actress Ambika, she made a mark in Sandalwood with the film Brindavana. It starred popular Kannada star Darshan in the lead.
