Richard Linklater is best known for the Oscar-nominated film Boyhood and the 'Before' trilogy. Over the years, the director has made a bunch of smaller movies which didn't make much noise due to their limited release. Linklater is back with his new film – Last Flag Flying. Backed by Amazon Studios, the movie premiered at the New York Film Festival in September.

Background and Story:

Three friends – Larry "Doc" Shepherd (Steve Carell), Sal Nealon (Bryan Cranston), and Mueller (Laurence Fishburne) reunite years after serving in the same Navy unit. Doc has lost his son in Iraq and asks his buddies to accompany him to the funeral. The trio set out to get the body and then take it the burial. The whole film covers their journey during which they reminisce about the good old days and also talk about their wrongdoings.

Why You Should Watch:

Just the lead cast is a good enough reason for you to watch Last Flag Flying. Bryan Cranston gets the best part as a cocky businessman who lives life to the fullest. The banter between his and Fishburne's character, which an uptight clergy are some of the movie’s best moments. Carrel's gives an understated performance as a father is mourning his son’s sudden demise. The three protagonists take up most of the screenscape giving J. Quinton Johnson little time to show his acting capabilities. In Linklater's movies, the characters always do a lot of talking and this one is no different. Since there's so much dialogue, the lines had to be interesting to keep you hooked. Well, Richard once again nails it as the audience was clapping on several occasions. They even applauded as the credits rolled, which shows how much they enjoyed the film.
