A Page From a Malayalee’s Diary
The film’s plot is a story from the diary of every Malayalee settled abroad. Be it Jacob’s rise as an entrepreneur in Dubai, or T. G. Ravi’s role as a faithful driver; the film deals with the struggles of each Gulf-Malayalee. The film’s over-positive dialogues may seem like they are taken from the scriptures, but they add a feel-good tag to the film.
Meet The Real Jacob
The film’s story is based on the real-life story of Jacob Zachariah and his family. Jacob was cheated by his business partner, who fled with millions of Dubai Dirhams. This leaves Jacob and his family in debt. He later leaves for Liberia, to work on a new business deal, but is unable to return to Dubai, as one of his investors files a case against him, forcing him to stay in Liberia for 5 years. Sounds like a story of true grit and determination, right?
Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Directorial Venture
Director Vineeth Srinivasan has previously directed Malarvadi Arts Club, Thattathin Marayathu, Thira and had written Om Shanti Oshana. All these films were received well. However, what makes Jacobinte Swargarajyam stand out is the way the family-drama was brought to life on screen. Devoid of any cliches or commercial elements, this film offered several tear-jerking moments.
Engaging Performances
Nivin Pauly and Vineeth Srinivasan‘s association has resulted in gold yet again. Nivin Pauly‘s subtle performance as the oldest son, Jerry, is the reason he is one of the most liked actors in Mollywood. Only a good actor has the ability to stand out in a role which is devoid of heroism. Renji Panicker as the head of the family, Jacob Zachariah, is dignified and effortless, and lives the role of a businessman. Lakshmi Ramakrishnan’s performance as Sherly, the brave mother, broke all stereotypes sans any melodrama- the actress brought a uniqueness to her role.
The Exotic Dubai
Ever had the joy of sitting at a cinema hall and touring beautiful Dubai? Well, this film gives you the chance. From the beautiful Corniche to the exotic desert safari – this film shows it all. The dialogues in this film also glorify the beautiful Arab city. Makes you want to visit, too. Right? We hear you!
