Recently the Malayalam film industry had almost come to a standstill after the devastating floods in Kerala. But now, Prithviraj is coming back to theatres in what can be considered the most-anticipated film and the first big Malayalam release after the monsoon. The film, titled Ranam – Detroit Crossing, features Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role and also stars Rahman as the main antagonist, along with Isha Talwar as the female lead.

Ranam will be the directorial debut of Nirmal Sahadev, the co-writer of director Shyamaprasad’s last film Hey Jude starring Nivin Pauly and Trisha. The recently released trailer of Ranam has already received an excited welcome from the industry. The trailer was unveiled by Mohanlal who is also currently shooting in lead role for Lucifer which will be Prithviraj’s debut as a director.

From the looks of the trailer, Ranam promises to be an action-packed modern thriller. Most of the film has been shot in the United States and is set in Detroit. Going by the film’s synopsis it “narrates the story of a big immigrant community in Detroit and Michigan and the Tamil street gangs in the locale.” Prithviraj plays a garage mechanic who also doubles up as a getaway driver for criminals, while Rahman plays the smooth-talking villain who lusts for power.

The film is produced by Anand Payyannur, Rani Oommen, and Lawson Biju. It also features music by Jakes Bejoy with camera work by Jigme Tenzing. You can catch Ranam – Detroit Crossing in theatres from September 6 onwards.
