Marathi cinema has seemed to enter golden times with at least one solid release every week. The scripts are evolving with the audience and rather than making formulaic movies, Marathi filmmakers are experimenting with plots and characters. It’s lovely to watch substantial films that are not only entertaining but also have something to say.

Speaking of quality cinema, we are quite excited about AB Aani CD, which stars veteran actor Vikram Gokhale in a prominent role after a long time, barring a few forgettable roles in recent times. We are particularly excited about Amitabh Bachchan’s full-fledged Marathi cinema debut, 25 years after his cameo in a song in the Marathi film Akka. The film’s Twitter handle released a motion poster and it has piqued our interest:

The plot of the film has Chandrakant Desphande or CD lamenting upon the biting nature of old age. He feels like his family neglects and disrespects him and he is in despair. One day, CD receives a letter from his college buddy who is none other than the superstar of the millennium – Amitabh Bachchan. This causes a major paradigm shift for CD, as Bachchan mentions he is coming to meet CD. To keep us on the edge, the teaser and the trailer do what they do best – tease us – and doesn’t feature Amitabh Bachchan. However, we do hear his famous baritone voice at the end though. Check out this interesting teaser here:

The film looks like fun and something that can be watched with family and we cannot wait. This will be Amitabh Bachchan’s first appearance in Marathi cinema. What’s interesting, if reports are to be believed, is that director Milind Lele offered AB this role on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati. This comedy drama also stars Subodh Bhave, Seema Deshmukh, Sharvari Lohokare, and Akshay Tanksale, and will release on 13th March.
