Verdict: An action-packed thriller

Shakti Soundar Rajan making a zombie flick was always going to be an exciting affair. After all, this would be the first time that the Tamil film audience were going to be treated to a movie like this. And, the film did not disappoint. With the right amount of action and a crisp run time, Miruthan is a film that guarantees thrills; something that is essential for a film of this genre.

The plot of the film is simple. With a deadly virus outbreak, humans turn into savage killers. One man stands up to save a group of doctors who can find a remedy for it. The rest of the film explores his attempt at doing so.
The movie spends generous time building up the lead character, Karthik (Jayam Ravi) and the bond he shares with his sister. The sub plot is also based on this very relationship. And, this eventually provides for some heart warming moments as well. The love track between Karthik and Renu (Lakshmi Menon) adds the much-needed twist to the tale too. All the commercial elements hence ensures that the family audience will love Miruthan.
Zombie films have one thing in common – the zombies chase the unaffected and never really attack each other. Miruthan is no different. However, it's unclear why the zombies attack Karthik, even after he begins to show signs of turning into one. The jokes targeted at the looks of a person could've also been avoided.
Jayam Ravi plays the macho action hero to the T. Lakshmi Menon too delivers a decent performance. D. Imman's music adds pace to the film.
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
Miruthan is certainly a commendable effort at introducing a genre to the Tamil audience. Watch this film if you have loved zombie films in the past, and if you're a fan of Jayam Ravi. A sweet twist awaits you during the climax. Watch out for it.
