After the success of Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth is back with a film that's vastly different. 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story of the Horse Soldiers is a film based on the book Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton about the CIA paramilitary officers and U.S. Special Forces sent to Afghanistan right after the September 11 attacks. If you are not sure whether 12 Strong is the film for you, we are here to help. If you have enjoyed these movies like 12 Strong, make sure to add this war film to your must-watch list.
12 Strong and 13 Hours have a lot in common. They are both based on a real story, a book, and revolve around events influenced by 9/11. Directed by Michael Bay, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi is about a group of six men who defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya after waves of terrorist attacks on September 11, 2012.
If you enjoyed War Horse, there's more than one reason for you to enjoy 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story of Horse Soldiers. Apart from showing horses in war, War Horse also had a great ensemble cast like 12 Strong. War Horse had Jeremy Irvine making a debut and starred prominent actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston.
12 Strong can be seen as a prequel of sorts to the Oscar-winning film, Zero Dark Thirty. While 12 Strong focuses on the immediate action taken after 9/11, Zero Dark Thirty was the culmination of all that led to the greatest manhunt in history for Osama Bin Ladin.
From the director of Zero Dark Thirty – Kathryn Bigelow – comes The Hurt Locker. This film is about the Iraq War Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who are targeted by insurgents and the psychological effects the combat has on them. 12 Strong appears to have the same depth and energy as this powerful film.
One of the reasons 12 Strong is much awaited is that we expect a strong performance from Chris Hemsworth, much like Bradley Cooper in American Sniper. American Sniper also became the highest-grossing war film of all time, breaking the record of Saving Private Ryan, which was another excellent war drama.
Also based on a non-fiction book, Lone Survivor was about Operation Red Wings, a mission to track down the Taliban leader, Ahmad Shah, in Afghanistan. If you enjoyed the military action and tactics of Lone Survivor, 12 Strong is sure to be an entertaining watch for you.
If you enjoyed the high level of action in Jack Ryan, you can expect much more intense fighting sequences in 12 Strong. In this film, Chris Pine plays the lead role of a man who had joined Afghanistan war as a Marine after the 9/11 attacks only to return to the U.S. after he suffers a critical injury.
12 Strong releases on 19th January in India. Don't forget to read our review if you need more reasons to watch this film.
