Nicolas Kim Coppola, the nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola, is simply known to us as Nicolas Cage. Cage is a fine actor who has been trolled a lot in recent times, with all those "You Don't Say" memes among others. While those are hilarious, let's not forget the fact that he is a brilliant actor and has some incredible performances to his credit. Of course, he peaked back in the 90s, but still appears regularly – averaging five movies a year even in the past five years. His next film to release this year is titled 'Vengeance: A Love Story'. Today, as he turns 53, let's take a look at seven of his best films where he has really shown his virtuosity in acting. Many have observed how he has developed his own method of acting, which Cage calls "Nouveau Shamanic". Happy birthday, Cage!

Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Cage received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as a suicidal alcoholic who plans to drink himself to death in Las Vegas. Equally great is his co-actor Elizabeth Shue, and their chemistry is everything.

Adaptation (2002)
This meta-film features Cage playing renowned screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (as well as his twin Donald Kaufman) who happens to have written the film.

Face/Off (1997)
classic where Cage plays a terrorist and John Travolta plays an FBI agent. As sworn enemies, they assume each other's physical appearance.

Con Air (1997)
An action film with an ensemble cast, where Cage shines the brightest. The film about a hijacked plane with hardened criminals on board, was praised for its stunts and actions sequences.

Matchstick Men (2003)
brilliant caper film has Cage playing a con artist, residing in Los Angeles, who has severe obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Vampire's Kiss (1988)
This cult film is responsible for the infamous "You Don't Say" memes. Cage is a mentally-ill literary agent, whose condition turns even worse when he ends up thinking that he was bitten by a vampire.

City of Angels (1998)
Cage plays an angel who guides humans to the next life. He stars opposite the stunning Meg Ryan, a heart surgeon who he falls in love with.
