Oscar Nominated Films That Never Released in India

Today, almost every week, there is at least one English film releasing in India. While some of them release on the same day as their international release, a few hit the theaters a week later. In rare cases, an English film has released in India before other countries. Disney opted for this strategy with The Jungle Book and it worked. People in India absolutely loved the movie and even before it opened worldwide, the reports were positive. So, it seems all good for Hollywood fans in the country, right? Hmm, not really as so many brilliant films never release in India due to censorship or other issues. Here are some of the Oscar nominated movies that people in India couldn't watch in the theaters.

Manchester by the Sea (2016)

Casey Affleck took home the Oscar for Best Actor for his exceptional performance in Manchester by the Sea. The film, which was nominated in other categories, also won the Best Original Screenplay award.

Brooklyn (2015)

Brooklyn didn't win in any of the three categories it was nominated for – Best Actress, Best Film, and Best Writing Adapted Screenplay – but it was still one of the best movies of 2015. Saoirse Ronan was an absolute revelation in this drama set in the 50s.

The Big Short (2015)

The main reason this didn't release in India is because it was based on the US stock markets, a subject Indians may not be familiar with. The Big Short starred Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie

Steve Jobs (2015)

Based on the life of Apple founder, Steve Jobs, this Danny Boyle film bombed at the US box-office. In fact, it was one of the biggest debacles of 2015. Since the movie wasn't fairing well in most markets, no one bothered to release it in India. The film got nominated in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories.
