A Few Good men

Playing For Keeps: Movie Review

Review: Playing For Keeps is a big collection of talent involved in a strikingly below average piece of work. From the stellar cast to the director who gave us masterpieces like The Pursuit Of Happiness, this movie is full of gifted individuals. It’s mind boggling how all these brilliant artists couldn’t see through the ordinary plot. It would have saved the audiences a trip to the theatres.

Playing For Keeps begins with former soccer star George Dryer (Butler), who shifts to Virginia to get closer to his ex-wife (Jessica Biel) and 10 year old son. He starts coaching his son’s school soccer team and soccer moms (Zeta-Jones, Thurman) begin to sneak themselves half naked into his bed. That’s pretty much the film. Not tightly wound at all. Very flimsy plot, hot ex-soccer star juggling between winning his ex-wife over and some very horny soccer moms. All this goes on with such nonchalance you almost want to ask the director if he was yawning though the entire shooting schedule. There is no glue that fixes and holds the film together; things just seem to happen to this hunky soccer star.

All in all, it is just a very lazily made film even by rom-com standards.

Verdict: Disappointing plot and lazy execution- avoidable.
