Resident Evil: Retribution (3D): Movie Review

Review: The movie starts off with a wild action sequence. Then it starts of with a small dream sequence. Then another dream in the dream. Was this a sequel to Inception is what I asked myself. Unfortunately it wasn’t.

Resident Evil: Retribution starts where it left off. The Red Queen, Umbrella Corporation, the T-Virus and Alice as usual bang in the middle of it. It’s the same old story that keeps going on like a merry-go-round on steroids. The fifth rendition of the Resident Evil series is sure to leave the audience praying that this franchisee just ends here. Alice wakes up (finally!) in the underground headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation located somewhere in Russia. (If you think about it, this movie could have also been named Alice in Underland). She is being interrogated by her old friend and comrade Jill (played by Sienna Guillory) who is now under the control of the Red Queen. Ada Wong (played by Bingbing Li, which I would like to add is one of the funniest names I have come across) and her team come to rescue Alice from the clutches of the evil Red Queen and her army. What follows is mindless action, zombies and humans serving and not to mention the Red Queens stagnant line “You are all going to die down here”.

There’s nothing that jumps off the page (except probably Alice turning a mother in a very peculiar fashion, something that shocks her too). Visuals are the usual, the background score is mediocre. The movie didn’t require acting nor directing skills. The mother angle introduced has made this movie go from Resident Evil to Resident Feeble! Yes, there are zombies, yes there are flesh-eating grotesque looking creatures and a lot of action but that doesn’t take away the fact that this movie was completely terrible.

What was probably the worst part of the movie was the last 20 minutes. Twice the audience shall be fooled into thinking that the movie is going to end and boom comes another ridiculous sequence. As usual, like most movies involving zombies, aliens and other entities, the last human stand is in the United States.

Overall, this movie is bad on pretty much all the fronts. The visuals were strictly OKAY but the rest was just terrible!

Verdict: A movie with mindless action. An unwanted sequence. Even the fans can give this one a miss.
