Review: It’s not your typical horror movie. It’s different. Good different or bad different? That’s left for you to decide. It does have your usual quota of blood and gore. Enough heads being ripped off by scary zombies, throats being slashed and enough bloodshed so horror fans will be satisfied. But what’s different is the sadistic humor attached to the death and bloodshed. It highlights a whole generation’s obsession with indifference. Even in the face of death they couldn’t care less. But rigging all this bloodshed with cameras and watching it live? Now that’s pushing it too far. Men in lab coats watching, betting on it as if it’s a game or a live football match, with drinks in hand and socializing as people are dying. This poses a big question. Is that a reflection of a debauched society or are you telling them it’s cool to behave like this? Again, left to your discretion.

The story is your usual bunch of teenagers heading off to a remote cabin in the woods to have a good time. The cabin ends up being haunted, blah blah. The twist however is that this is all a setup. A whole team of people works hard to set up cameras everywhere and rig the room with chemicals, fumes, lighting etc, to alter behavior and make the teens to do whatever they want them to do. Like puppeteers and puppets. Who gets killed how and when and in what fashion is also pre-decided to an extent, the whole team then sits back in the command room and throws a party where drinks flow and bets are placed as people die gruesome deaths.

The most disturbing part however is that even the teenagers seem like they couldn’t care less about their own lives. They seem to be very happy smoking a joint and chuckling over wise cracks in the face of death.

For a normal person, you’ll end up confused and irritated or just numb after the movie. But if you are a borderline sociopath you could be encouraged in all the wrong ways. I will hold my personal opinion back because abusive language is prohibited. I will simply end it by saying there is enough blood, gore and much more for horror fans to be satisfied and enough for sadists too.

Verdict: Watch it if you have the stomach for a gore fest and the mind for a disturbing concept.
