A big disappointment for Top Cat fans. We all loved the charming feline criminal and his gang as kids. So, one would hope that the film would bring back fond memories. But that is definitely not the case. Not only is it an insult to the original cartoon, even as a stand-alone film, the plot is surprisingly boring. Animation-wise, I hate to say this, but some of the worst Bollywood animations are better. Plot-wise, it’s an absolute snooze-fest. Dialogue and comedy-wise, it’s simply not comprehensible and is uninspiring.
Top Cat and his gang face a new police chief who wants to revolutionize New York city and halt crime with a complete Big Brother like CCTV camera set up combined with robo-cops. It’s up to Top Cat and his gang to save the day. With a series of mishaps and supposedly funny situations that follow, Top Cat and his gang try their wits against this evil technology Nazi.
Top Cat – the movie does not do justice to our beloved TC and his harmless felon antics. So, fans please stay away. Just get the DVD of the original cartoon series instead.
Verdict: An uninspiring and unjust tribute to a beloved cartoon.
