Verdict: A strong plot with complementing performances and edgy music make Andhadhun a must-watch.
Rarely do we have movies in Bollywood that have the power to entertain you and knock your socks off with its brilliant content. Andhadhun gives you both. Helmed by Sriram Raghavan, who is known for making some of the best thrillers in Bollywood, this comedy thriller stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu in the lead roles. Too many cooks may spoil a broth but Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti and Yogesh Chandekar have put together a brilliant script with a story that impresses at every turn. Full of twists that leave you at the edge of your seat, Andhadhun stands to be one of the best comedy thrillers we have seen in Bollywood in a very long time.
What’s Andhadhun About:
The story of Andhadhun is long and winding (think the Irrfan-starrer, Blackmail). We could tell you all about it but it would only ruin your movie-watching experience. What you need to know is that it involves a blind man, a married woman, and a murder. The trailer gives away that much with a more confusing plot, so here’s something you can read to contemplate the possible outcomes of the film. Rest assured, the two-minute trailer barely brings out the genius of this film.
Without giving away much, we can safely say that Andhadhun is a complete package. The actors do a commendable job in their respective roles with Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu stealing every scene with their odd chemistry. While we wish we could’ve had more of Radhika Apte in this film but the supporting actors that really leave an impression are Chhaya Kadam and Ashwini Kalsekar. Sriram Raghavan knows how to bring out the best from his characters and he has certainly done it again. With a powerful script and equally complementing performances, the film provides thorough entertainment.
One of the highlights of Andhadhun is definitely its music. Classical music has the power to bring about sudden shifts in your mood and this technique is utilized well in the film, as it both makes you laugh while keeping you at the edge of your seat. Amit Trivedi’s intimate album also gives a peppy feel to the story but it is ultimately the background score that stays in your mind long after the movie is over.
What Could’ve Been Better:
While each character has a lot to give to the film, there are a few gaping holes in the character sketches that we wish were explained better. However, it does not take away from the overall movie experience.
Why You Should Watch:
After Stree, Bollywood has blessed us with another thrilling entertainer and this one too has the potential to break box office numbers. Watch the film for its brilliant performances, the highly engaging story, the music, but most of all, watch it for some mind-blowing entertainment.
