Verdict: If you’re in a mood to laugh, give Housefull 4 a try.

The Housefull franchise is back with its fourth and possibly the craziest outing with a cast comprising Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Sanon and other actors. From the looks of it, Housefull seemed like a Diwali treat for happy, shiny families and it lives up to its expectations.

What’s Housefull 4 About:

The film opens in present-day London, where Harry (Akshay Kumar) is a hairdresser with a condition that has proven to bring in the chuckles. He has short-term memory loss, a foundation of any confusion-based comedy. Harry and his two brothers Max (Bobby Deol) and Roy (Riteish Deshmukh) land in trouble with a mafia don and are in dire need for money, another champion formula. They somehow convince the three daughters of the billionaire Thakral (Ranjit), who is an insatiable tharki, by the way. As they plan their destination wedding in Sitamgarh, Harry can suddenly remember his previous life as Prince Bala Dev Singh, who is supposedly shaitan ka saala (basically evil) and spectacularly bald. In this garden variety reincarnation flashback, Harry realizes that they are marrying the wrong sisters in this janam. Thereon begins the second half of the film. There are so many cameos that if this film were a bagel, it’d be an everything bagel.

What Works:

Housefull 4 is a perfect treat for the fans of the Housefull franchise and Akshay Kumar lovers. The over-the-top comedy, loud punchlines and colorful montages all work for someone who walks into the theatre with the sole intention of having fun. The random assemblage of actors somehow creates moments for laughter. Riteish Deshmukh has a comic style that works for him and he does that well. Bobby Deol’s presence is felt in action sequences. The actresses don’t have a lot to do, which is hardly shocking given the trend. Akshay Kumar is at his A-game though with no room for complaints. He is charming, funny, and honestly carries the entire film on his fit shoulders.

What Could’ve Been Better:

If you are a fan of toilet humor, you are clear. Some gender-based stereotypes and jokes seem dated. And yes, suspend your disbelief like you’ve never suspended it before.

Why You Should Watch:

Diwali is a time to kick back and have some fun with the family and loved ones. Housefull 4 was made only to entertain you and it does its job well. Akshay Kumar is terrific in both his avatars and deserves a watch for this one. Have a happy Diwali, guys!
