Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3: Film Review – Strictly for Tusshar Kapoor Fans

Verdict: A sex comedy that falls short of the funnies

The good news – this part of the world is beginning to welcome the idea of sex comedies. The bad news – the Censor Board still isn’t impressed and the filmmakers are yet to get over hackneyed gags. This Friday comes yet another addition to the list with Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3
The third installment of the franchise had people talking for a while; first with a trailer that left little to be curious about before watching the movie and then the trouble it ran into with the Censor Board that ordered a huge number of cuts. The hype was hence, there.
Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 leaves no one surprised. The movie begins with the lead actors in animation up to no good as the credits appear with the title song. It tells you well all that you could expect in the next couple of hours; if you had any doubts after having watched the trailer, of course.
Rocky (Aftab Shivdasani) and Kanhaiya (Tusshar Kapoor) are two friends who evidently have little to do in life. The former is a hit with the ladies when not being clumsy while the other is desperately praying (quite literally) for ‘true love’ when, you guessed it, not being incredibly clumsy. Both though are gifted with big you-know-whats and it is so very explicitly suggested. Believe it! In a bizarre turn of events, Rocky and Kanhaiya end up being successful pornstars shortly before the latter finds true love and then begins a comedy (attempted) of errors one is so familiar with in the movies as the duo with a little help from their friends tries to cover tracks from the ‘sanskaari elders’.
Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 goes the cliched route with a bunch of jokes we have heard and chosen to ignore over the years. The movie takes almost the entire first half to arrive at some semblance of a plot. There are ample digs at many Bollywood hits including the previous chapter of the franchise. The only one though that brings a hint of a smile to the face though is the jibe at the Salman Khan-starrer Kick.
The movie probably suffers the most thanks to the innumerable cuts those that were the Censor Board’s diktat. The cuts are way too abrupt and jarring. You begin to wonder if you found the trailer funnier than the actual film.
Shivdasani is a rare sight at the movies these days. So, one feels for him as you see him trying hard within the boundaries of a script as this. Tusshar Kapoor is as good as his last appearance in a movie. Mandana Karimi is probably one of the few things pretty about Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3. Supporting performances by Shakti Kapoor, Darshan Jariwala, Sushmita Mukherjee and Krishna Abhishek do their sincere loony bits to keep you interested. Oh there is Meghna Naidu too (Go, google! Psst…try Kaliyon Ka Chaman – Remix)
Why You Should Watch This Movie:
You could give Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 a try if you have enjoyed the previous two films and are a fan of mindless innuendos. You could also give this movie a shot if like many you too think Mandana Karimi is the freshest ‘Pretty Young Thing‘ on the block. To say nothing if you’re a Tusshar Kapoor fan
