Verdict: A high-octane action film that tugs on your emotions with a sweet but fatal love story.

Bollywood has never shied from giving us some over-the-top action-driven films filled with whistly-worthy dialogues, a compelling hero, a vengeance-filled villain, and of course, a few item numbers. Director Milap Milan Zaveri has ticked all of these boxes and more with his latest film Marjaavaan, making it a complete mass entertainer.

What’s Marjaavaan About:

This movie is about a local goon Ragu (Sidharth Malhotra) who has pledged his loyalty to Narayan Anna (M. Nassar) who runs the water mafia in Mumbai. Anna is completely dependent on Ragu and entrusts the operations of his business to him. Anna’s fondness for Ragu doesn’t sit well with his son Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh) who longs for his father’s acceptance. His insecurities stem from his short stature and as a result, Vishnu develops an intense hatred towards Ragu. When Ragu falls in love with Zoya (Tara Sutaria), Vishnu makes it his personal mission to destroy their lives.

What Works:

Sidharth Malhotra does a killer job as far as his acting goes in this high-octane action film. Most of the movie is riding heavily on him and Malhotra carries the weight of the film through and through. Riteish Deshmukh’s acting is certainly not a misfire. He delivers his mouth-filling dialogues while channeling his anger and frustration to the tee. Tara Sutaria who plays the lead actress is mute in this film but her facial expressions and genuine acting make her a rose amongst these thorny gangsters. All the supporting actors in Marjaavaan also execute their characters well and help in tailoring the film together.

What Could’ve Been Better:

This film is unnecessarily long, causing it to be quite predictable as well. One could have hoped the writing and plot could have been a little more creative as well.

Why You Should Watch:

Siddharth and Riteish make for a dynamic pair and they are sure to keep you entertained right till the end. Don’t miss out on watching Marjaavaan, it makes for a fun one-time watch.
