Verdict: Find out how far a person can go – for passion and for love.
In 2007, Namastey London gave us a fresh look at an internationally Indian love story. Now, the Ishaqzaade jodi – Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra – brings us a new take on this refreshing romance in Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Namaste England.
What’s Namaste England About:
Both from the same pind in Punjab, Param (Arjun Kapoor) and Jasmeet (Parineeti Chopra) fall in love. The two begin to sneak around so that they can spend some time with each other, with a little help from their friends. Jasmeet even pursues her dream of being a jewelry designer with a part-time job in Amritsar. However, Jasmeet’s grandfather is a man of old-fashioned values who believes that a woman’s role is to be a homemaker. So when the two lovers get married, her career comes to a standstill. But Jasmeet’s dream is to build her jewelry designing career in London and all Param wants is to support the love of his life. As the couple pursues this dream, they meet some major roadblocks followed by a special cameo of Jasmeet’s childhood friend (Mallika Dua) and in comes a local travel agent (Satish Kaushik). We then see just how far Jasmeet will go for her goal and just how far Param will go for the love of his life.
We’ve known and loved Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra’s evident chemistry ever since they first came together in Ishaqzaade. In Namaste England, this compatibility single-handedly lifts up the entertainment level. The supporting cast including Shreya Mehta, Satish Kaushik, Mallika Dua, and more add a much-appreciated light-heartedness to the melodramatic plot. Hiten Patel brings genuine emotion to his character. Along with the lead love story, the film also brings to light the increasingly relevant topic of Indians immigrating abroad both legal and illegal.
What Could’ve Been Better:
Coupled with predictable characters, the plot doesn’t get its due in terms of attention to detail. Set in both Punjab and London, we would’ve loved to see more of the picturesque beauty of both locations.
Why You Should Watch:
Arjun and Parineeti’s on-screen as well as off-screen chemistry is truly apparent in Namaste England. If there’s any reason you can’t miss this film, it’s definitely because of this Bollywood jodi!
