Verdict: A harmless comedy with endless jokes.

Bollywood's first 3D comedy is here. Welcome To New York is an out-and-out comedy movie that was filmed at the IIFA 2017. With a huge star cast and plenty cameos, does it live up to the expectations? Find out.

What’s Welcome To New York About:

With the IIFA Awards as a backdrop, Welcome To New York traces the journey of two Bollywood aspirants – Teji (Diljit Dosanjh) and Jeenal (Sonakshi Sinha). They both are the winners in a talent hunt competition for the award show and are flown to New York to showcase their skills on the big stage. While Jeenal is a costume designer who wants Salman Khan to wear her outfits, Teji simply aims to become the next superstar. The show is being held by Garry (Boman Irani) and his subordinate Sophie (Lara Dutta), who is planning to sabotage the event. There’s also a track of Karan and Arjun (both played by Karan Johar), which brings in an exciting twist right before the interval.

What Works:

The performances of the lead cast are what makes Welcome To New York worth the ticket price. Karan Johar may have received flak for Bombay Velvet, but this time he is in insanely funny playing himself. He does look a bit uncomfortable as the antagonist Arjun but full marks to him for trying. Sonakshi Sinha and Diljit Dosanjh seem to be having a good time and manage to leave you in splits. It’s also great to see Lara Datta on the big screen after so long.

What Could’ve Been Better:

Some of the jokes in the film seem a bit juvenile and while this is a raw attempt, we have our first spoof film about the Indian film industry. The songs are the film are not very memorable.

Why You Should Watch This Film:

If you're a Bollywood buff, Welcome To New York will definitely appeal to you. It’s got all the elements of a typical entertainer and never takes itself too seriously. At just two hours long, this one does not outstay its welcome.
