Ashiq Usman has produced the movie under the banner Ashiq Usman Productions and Gopi Sunder has composed the music score.
What’s Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu About:
As the title says, the story revolves around Argentina fans in Kaattoorkadavu, a village near Thrissur. The protagonist Vipinan (Kalidas Jayaram) is a diehard fan like his friend Suni (Aneesh Gopal) while their childhood friend Mehrunisa (Aishwarya Lekshmi), whom Vipinan deeply loves, is a Brazil fan. The story moves through various World Cups as well as stages of Vipinan’s life. He manages to confess his love to Mehru multiple times but she turns him down. Along with their friendship, they also have a huge rivalry being Argentina and Brazil fans respectively. Then there are supporters of Portugal and Germany, and the many sweet revenge stories and betrayals form the rest of the story.
Kalidas Jayaram has pulled off three different looks throughout the film – from 2008 to 2018 – and he does so quite well. His performance is decent too. Aishwarya Lekshmi is a charm. She is a bold and fearless village girl, which is refreshing to watch. The actress is definitely re-writing the fate of female roles in Malayalam cinema. All the supporting actors are fabulous, especially Anu K Aniyan. His comic timing is excellent and all the ‘George’ fans would love to watch him on the silver screen. Director Midhun has done a great job in creating a nostalgic ride for Argentina fans. All the references are spot on. There is quite a ‘Baahubali’ moment for Messi fans to watch out for. Gopi Sundar’s breezy score is the highlight of the film. Overall, Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu is a fun movie to watch.
What Could’ve Been Better:
The first half does not create a definition for the movie. There are fan fights, there is love, but you fail to understand where it is all going. The second half provides more context but the climax could have been better here. There are also scenes that seem a tad stretched, just to make an impression among Argentina fans. The film otherwise is a good watch.
Why You Should Watch:
Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu can be considered as a tribute to football fans across Kerala. The kind of experiences you have seen or felt in your life is all out there on the big screen. The love story is too sweet to ignore. The performances are mindblowing. In short, Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu is for everyone who would love to watch something sweet and simple yet different.
