Verdict: The right mix of comedy, love, and emotions makes this one a sure-shot winner.
Oru Yamandan Prema Kadha is a comedy entertainer starring Dulquer Salmaan, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Soubin Shahir, Salim Kumar, Nikhila Vimal, Bibin George, and Renji Panicker in pivotal roles. Directed by B. C. Noufal and written by Bibin George & Vishnu Unnikrishnan, the film is produced under the banners Play Films and World Wide Films by Anto Joseph and C R Salim. What’s special about this one is that it marks the return of Dulquer Salmaan to Mollywood after two years, so fans are definitely excited. Let’s see if the film manages to meet expectations below.
What’s Oru Yamandan Premakadha About:
The film revolves around Lallu (Dulquer Salmaan) who is a happy-go-lucky chap from an aristocratic family but works as a daily-wage painter. He is a fan of ‘nostalgia’ and likes to keep things simple, peaceful and happy. His father, John Kombanayil (Renji Panicker) is showcased as someone who isn’t very happy with Lallu’s lifestyle but does not question him anyway. Lallu is surrounded by close friends, known in the village as “Chaver”. These include Panchikuttan (Salim Kumar), Vicky Peedika (Soubin Shahir), and Teny (Vishnu Unnikrishnan). Lallu’s brother Paapi (Arun Kurian) is in love and wants to get married but John wishes Lallu to be married first. Even though is a heartthrob because of his good looks and nature, Lallu is waiting for that one woman who gives him a ‘spark’ on the first sight. Would he be successful in finding her? How would that love story end? Oru Yamandan Prema Kadha gives us all the answers.
The casting of the film is apt and all the actors give a decent performance. Dulquer Salmaan is adorable as always, while Soubin Shahir, Salim Kumar, and Vishnu Unnikrishnan bring in the comedy. Though in a small role, Suraj Venjaramoodu is a treat to watch. Nadirshah’s music may not be memorable but still leaves an impression. The costumes, especially Dulquer’s colorful shirts, provide a vibrant look and feel to the film. The stunts are well choreographed and made to appear even better in the editing room. Bibin George manages to give the creeps with his bizarre expressions and negative character. The movie altogether is well written with apt and relevant dialogues and scenes.
What Could’ve Been Better:
The women in the film have very little to contribute overall. Nikhila Vimal’s role is too short to even call her the female lead and Bibin George’s character raises some questions that the film does not explore in depth. Leaving that aside, Oru Yamandan Prema Kadha is a decent watch.
Why You Should Watch:
Oru Yamandan Prema Kadha tickles your funny bone. It has all the filmy elements added proportionately to call it an entertainer. The film also has instances that take you back to the golden days. Watch it for all the fun and laughter.
