Swathanthriyam Ardharathriyil Review

Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil: Film Review – A Beautifully Crafted Thriller!

Verdict: With an apt title and a brilliant line-up of actors, Tinu Pappachan’s first directorial outing is worth every penny.

Presented by Unnikrishnan B. under the banner Soorya Cinema, with B. C. Joshi producing it along with Lijo Jose Pellissery, Chemban Vinod Jose and Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil, the film is a gritty thriller with several goosebump moments. Directed by newcomer Tinu Pappachan, the movie has Angamaly Diaries’ Pepe – Anthony Varghese in the lead, supported by Vinayakan and Chemban Vinod Jose with many other excellent actors from the same team.

What’s Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil About:
An unfortunate accident changes the life of Jacob Varghese overnight (Varghese), the manager of a finance firm owned by Appachan in Kottayam. Jacob, who had bigger plans in life, is charged five cases including the murder of a police officer and gets caught by the police during his stint to escape the country with his wife. The movie is about his intelligent plans and struggles to escape from the prison and to start a new life with the help of his fellow prisoners Simon (Vinayakan), Devassy (Chemban) and a few others. Reminding us of various international classics, especially The Shawshank Redemption, the movie is about how Jacob and team hatch a plan and whether they become successful in escaping.

What Works:
The best part of this jail movie is its cinematography by Girish Gangadharan. The premise of the movie is a sub-jail and Girish brilliantly captures it. The background score by Deepak Alexander is yet another element that would keep the audience hooked. Antony Varghese does not look like an actor who is just one movie mature and is definitely here to stay. Vinayakan, as always, is brilliant as a very serious, gritty prisoner. Chemban handles subtle comedy really well. Each and every character in the movie has a significant role, and no one fails to give their best.

What Could Have Been Better:
The movie lags every now and then, especially in the first half, with a slow-paced storyline and visuals. The action and violence have not crossed any limits as seen in the trailer, and the movie overall has everything to make the youth love it. However, it’s questionable whether the family audience would like it, as there is hardly any romance, emotional drama or masala elements.

Why You Should Watch the Movie:
If you love watching raw and realistic scenes onscreen with some amazing visuals and appropriate background score, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil is something you shouldn’t miss. Book your tickets now to watch some enthralling action and amazing acting!
