Verdict: Varane Avashyamund has just the right amounts of romance, humour, emotions and drama.
Varane Avashyamund is a light-hearted drama featuring Suresh Gopi, Shobhana, Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead along with an ensemble cast. In his directorial debut, Anoop Sathyan, son of veteran filmmaker Sathyan Antiqued, showcases the lives of a mother-daughter duo and how they change with the arrival of two men. The film is bankrolled by Dulquer Salmaan under the banner ‘Wayfarer Films’. Alphons Joseph has composed music for it, while Mukesh Muraleedharan and Toby John have handled cinematography and editing respectively.
What’s Varane Avashyamund About:
Neena (Shobhana), a French teacher is a single mother to Nikitha aka Nikki (Kalyani Priyadarshan) who desperately wishes to get married. She is on a constant lookout for a groom but nothing has worked so far. Two new people move in to the building they live in – Major Unnikrishnan (Suresh Gopi) a lone, retired Army veteran with anger issues and Bibeesh aka Fraud (Dulquer Salman), a happy-go-lucky guy with a decent job and a little brother to take care of. How Neena and Nikki’s lives change with the arrival of these men forms the crux of the movie.
It’s a treat watching Suresh Gopi on screen after years. Unlike his previous outings, he is seen in a gentle, sensitive role that he has portrayed well. Shobhana and her grace makes Neena endearing while Bhagyalekshmi’s voiceover makes the character perfect. Kalyani Priyadarshan is peppy addition to the movie. Dulquer Salmaan’s Fraud is lively and lovely. Johny Antony is hilarious and a natural at it. K.P.A.C. Lalitha also contributes to the humor well. Alphons Joseph’s music is decent and the Unnikrishnan track is catchy. Anoop Sathyan seems to have followed his father’s path of making endearing movies and that quite evident in Varane Avashyamund. The film has sentiments, romance and humor in the right doses. It is also interesting to watch references from old Suresh Gopi and Shobhana movies in this one. Overall, Varane Avashyamund is a delightful watch.
What Could’ve Been Better:
Dulquer Salman has very little screen time, which might disappoint his fans. The pace and the abrupt ending might also not go well with some viewers. The plot is predictable yet it is an interesting movie.
Why You Should Watch:
It is a treat to see Shobhana and Suresh Gopi together after ages. Varane Avashyamund makes for a light hearted and engaging watch with some good dialogues, decent performances and plenty of hilarious moments.
