Kaay Re Rascalaa: Film Review – A Popcorn Entertainer

Verdict – A safe bet for a one-time watch.

Often the makers who deliver a blockbuster previously have to deal with over-the-top expectations for their upcoming release. Ventilator by Purple Pebble Pictures was a gem of a movie. The film not only won our hearts, but several awards too, including three National Film Awards. The second Marathi movie by the company Kaay Re Rascalaa is also burdened with the OTT expectations. Does the film manage to meet those expectations? No. But it surely delivers what we expect from a comedy film.

Raja (Gaurav Ghatnekar) is a man of tricks and he gets all his needs done by fooling the people around him. One day, he finds a pen drive that has an important piece of information. Needless to say, he decides to take the advantage of it and sets out to plan the biggest con of his life. And his partner in crime for the same is Guddu (Master Nihar Gite). But the circumstances lead his plan to a series of confusions and complications which is somehow interlinked with all the prominent characters of the film. Amidst all this, how Raja and Guddu execute their plan is what the film is all about.

Kaay Re Rascaala - BookMyShowGaurav Ghatnekar’s performance in Kaay Re Rascalaa is bang on. He makes the audience believe that his character Raja is a conman very effortlessly. Nikhil Ratnaparkhi once again proves his acting mettle. Bhagyashree Mothe who plays Raja’s love interest is perfectly fine. All other actors have done their bit. The one who will receive maximum appreciation for the film is Master Nihar Gite. In all his scenes, he outplays all the other actors. Towards the end, one might feel that it is too much for a child to deliver those heavy dialogues. But his screen presence and command makes it all worthwhile.

Talking about direction, Giridharan Swamy does a fair job. He very well managed to bring out the best from the actors. The songs by the duo Rohan-Rohan are already a chartbuster. All the songs are equally good, so we can’t take a pick. Maybe that’s why we wanted more from them, especially in the second half. There are flaws, but Abhijit Deshpande's crisp editing doesn't allow the viewers to think too much about it.

Why You Should Watch This Movie:

The tongue-in-cheek and light-hearted comedy is what makes the film worth your time. Watch it for Gaurav Ghatnekar, Nikhil Ratnaparkhi and Master Nihar Gite. The movie is a family entertainer and a safe bet for a one-time watch. Catch this one over the weekend with your family and just chill.
