Verdict: Chal Mera Putt 2 is a worthy sequel to one of the best films of 2019.
The lovable good-for-nothings from Chal Mera Putt embark on their new adventure in the sequel. The first part was a mesmeric experience and it’s indeed a tough task to come up with an equally good sequel, if not better. Does Chal Mera Putt 2 meet the monumental expectations? Will the escapades and antics of Punjabis from both the Punjabs supersede the adventures and frolics in the prequel? Let’s analyze.
What’s Chal Mera Putt 2 About:
Jinder (Amrinder Gill) and others (Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti, Gurshabad Singh, Hardeep Gill, and Akram Udas) continue living together under one roof in the UK. Their struggle to earn pounds and make ends meet whilst also sending money home and getting permanent residency in the UK still continues. But they take it all with smiles on their faces. The owner of the house they’re living in comes back to demand rent. Thus starts the struggle of arranging money or else they must vacate the house. Meanwhile, Savvy’s (Simi Chahal) parents have arranged her marriage to Deepa (Garry Sandhu). The film further explores if Jinder manages to get married to Savvy and whether he finally gets PR.
Team Chal Mera Putt 2, especially director Janjot Singh has a tough job in hand and a major responsibility on his shoulders. But there’s good news! Like its predecessor, Chal Mera Putt 2 is a sparkling example of entertaining cinema. As promised, it delivers lots of laughs and also a heartwarming message.
The film strikes a fine balance between humor and emotions. The comic portions are its forte, the drama is attention-grabbing and the emotional quotient is strong enough to turn you moist-eyed. Chal Mera Putt 2 can be best described as a fun film that works because of its dialogues. The situations that all the friends throw each other into keep you glued to the screen. But the emotional bond that they all share with each other is what wins your heart over. There’s never a dull moment in Chal Mera Putt 2.
Throughout the two halves, you enjoy the constant leg-pulling of each character by the others. The uniqueness of the film is that it doesn’t have a single hero but all six of them play an equally important part and your heart beats for them all. The romance is relegated to the backseat in this part. The speech by Amrinder Gill in the climax is thoughtful. Speaking about the actor, his command over humor, drama, and emotions is exemplary. Simi Chahal has a brief part and she does it well. Garry Sandhu, in a cameo appearance, adds to the star quotient. Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti, Gurshabad Singh, Hardeep Gill, and Akram Udas are superb. Even a smirk or an exclamation by any one of them makes you flex your facial muscles. Zafri Khan is terrific as Advocate Bilal.
What Could’ve Been Better:
The film does not have anything new to offer in terms of story. The plot, situations, and problems are the same as the prequel. It’s the dialogues that save grace for this film. At times, the film tends to speak the language of the youth who face problems in foreign lands, but these scenes come out of nowhere. There’s comedy before these sequences and more comedy after them.
Why You Should Watch:
Chal Mera Putt 2 is a perfect follow up to the 2019 blockbuster Chal Mera Putt. It’s heartwarming to see Indian and Pakistani actors share screen space. The quality of cinema that they bring out from their acts is worth applauding. The film has a number of comic sequences that bring the house down. Go watch Amrinder Gill and others entertain you in the most unadulterated manner. Kudos to team Chal Mera Putt for bringing out an equally good sequel which will not let the audience’s expectations down in any manner.
