Golak Bugni Bank te Batua: Film Review – An Unadulterated Comedy

Verdict: Amrinder Gill steals the show in this hilarious take on demonetization.

Pollywood is definitely evolving as far as stories are concerned. If the past month belonged to the experimental cinema (war films), this week’s release Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua is also an unexplored concept. Besides an off-beat title, Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua takes help of true incidents that rocked and shocked every Indian. The movie also has a fresh pairing with Harish Verma and Simi Chahal. To top it all, it has superstar Amrinder Gill coming back to the big screen after the super successful Lahoriye. Amongst all this, the movie has succeeded in generating a decent amount of hype.

What’s Golak Bugni Bank te Batua  About:

Neeta and Mishri, the kids of the two most eligible contenders to become the head of their locality, have an air of arrogance around them and their families hold great animosity against each other. With a twist of fate, however, they fall in love with each other and decide to elope. Years later, when they return, they find the people of their town buckled under a certain problem. Will their families help the community or will they hold onto their personal agendas?

What Works:

Golak Bugni Bank te Batua has many things going right. Right from the taunting and arguments between Jaswinder Bhalla and B. N. Sharma, to the chemistry between Harish and Simi, and the innocence of Amrinder Gill and Aditi Sharma, the movie keeps the viewer entertained.

GB3 starts off on a high with the introduction of the two families and the differences between them. The constant effort of one-upmanship between the two fathers makes the proceedings interesting. The Dussehra and Jagran tracks are funny.

But its the second half where the writer had stored all the twists. Even when the situation is tense, the writer and director make sure that comedy doesn't fade out. Moreover, the Amrinder-Aditi love story keeps the viewer hooked.

Harish Verma shines in a role tailor-made for him. He excels in emotional scenes and is effective in comedy ones. Simi Chahal delivers a flawless performance and proves yet again that she is amongst the best in business. Amrinder Gill is a fine performer and is in full form in GB3. Aditi Sharma impresses in a short but important role. Jaswinder Bhalla and B. N. Sharma are the heart and soul of the movie. They bring the house down with their acts.

What could have been better:

The lead pair is shown to hate each other. Suddenly, they fall in love and within a week’s time, they decide to elope. And the very soon, they realize their mistake and rush back home. All this seems to be a bit hurried.

Why you should watch This Movie:

Golak Bugni Bank te Batua should be watched for its novel subject. The movie provides unadulterated entertainment. Jaswinder Bhalla and B.N. Sharma deliver fine performances. But it’s Amrinder Gill who steals the show. In all, it makes for a fun weekend watch.
