Verdict: Diljit Dosanjh & Neeru Bajwa deliver yet another super entertaining performance.

Without an iota of doubt, Shadaa has to be the most awaited Punjabi film of the year. After delivering back-to-back blockbusters, the invincible jodi of Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa makes a comeback on the silver screen. What makes Shadaa all the more special is that it is helmed by Jagdeep Sidhu, whose directorial debut Qismat was one of the biggest hits of 2018. The hilarious trailer and innovative marketing by the lead stars have made sure that there’s humungous hype surrounding Shadaa. Does the movie live up to expectations? Let’s analyze.

What’s Shadaa About:

A happy-go-lucky man (Diljit Dosanjh) is under pressure by his parents to get married. However, as fate has it, he falls in love with a girl (Neeru Bajwa) at first sight but soon realizes that it would not work, as they come from two different worlds. Will he be able to marry the woman of his dreams? Watch Shadaa to find out.

What Works:

From the very first scene, Shadaa can be described in one word – entertaining! The plight of bachelors depicted through Diljit’s character is hilarious. The film starts off with a bang with dialogues that bring the house down. Once the initial bachelor-bashing gets over, the story moves to Jaipur where Neeru enters the film. The artificial marriage track is a complete winner in terms of writing and execution.

The second half doesn’t move away from the essence of the film. The proceedings, although serious, are treated in the funniest way possible. Just like the first hour, dialogues are the mainstay of this one as well. The finale is well executed and the viewer leaves the cinema hall with a smile on the face.

Diljit Dosanjh delivers a knockout performance. He is absolutely adorable in a role that seems to be tailor-made for him. He does complete justice to the character given to him and brings the house down with his impeccable comic timing. Neeru Bajwa stands tall with Diljit as far as performance is concerned. She matches him in each and every shot. Jagdeep Sidhu is blessed with good story-writing as well as story-telling techniques. He has written and directed a film that he will be proud of for years to come.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The only flaw in an otherwise perfect film is its length. A few sequences seem to be stretched unnecessarily and chopping off the film by about 8-10 minutes would’ve helped.

Why You Should Watch:

Shadaa brings together Punjabi film industry’s favorite jodi – Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa. The film is a laugh riot with super funny dialogues and helmed by an ace storyteller who has chosen the right story and apt artists for it to be a blockbuster. Go watch this unadulterated family comedy.
