Verdict: Filled with impressive high-intensity stunts.
Vishal and Sundar C collaborate together for the fourth time with Action after Madha Gaja Gaja, Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru and Aambala. Produced by R.Ravindran under Trident Arts banner, Action also stars Tamannaah, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Akanksha Puri, Chaya Singh, Ramki, Kabir Duhan Singh in prominent roles. Releasing simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages, Action is touted to be a blockbuster. While the teasers and theatrical trailers encompass some electrifying action episodes, will Action stand up to what it has been showcased?
What’s Action About:
Subash (Vishal) is a Colonel in the Indian Army and is the younger son of Chief Minister, whose elder son is Shravan (Ramki). Subash’s father declares that his elder son will be his successor in a meeting that he hosts for Gupta, a prime ministerial candidate and other members of the party. Almost all of the Subash’s family members becomes a victim of a bomb blast that occurs during the meeting. Upon investigation, Subash finds that an international terrorist is behind this massive attack. How Subhash unravels this mystery and brings the culprits to justice forms the plot of Action.
Vishal is at his usual best when it comes to action. In Action, the larger-than-life action sequences and chase sequences have brought the best out of him. He has excelled in the author-backed role and is at ease when it comes to playing the emotions subtly. Tamannaah is effective in the role of Diya, an undercover operations agent, and is ultra-glamorous in songs. Akanksha Puri as Kiara is the pick of the lot and is stunning in a negative role. Aishwarya Lakshmi is good in her limited role as Vishal’s love interest. Ramki, Kabir Duhan Singh, Yogi Babu, Sha Ra, Anand Raj, George Maryan, Sayaji Shinde, and others are adequate in their respective roles. Director Sundar. C. has largely succeeded in making a movie laced with superlative action sequences that are on par with any Hollywood movie. Subha’s writing needs a special mention and has also contributed to the screenplay along with Sundar. C. and Venkat Ragavan. The music and background score by Hiphop Tamizha strikes the right chord and Dudley’s cinematography does the trick, which pumps up the action to the next level. Producers need to be commended for spending heavily on bringing a top-class product for viewers.
What Could Have Been Better:
While the whole set up is magnificent and entertaining, the last few minutes are predictable.
Why You Should Watch:
Action is a must-watch movie for action movie lovers and the chase sequences are something that we rarely see once in a decade in Indian cinema. Make sure you catch Action over the weekend.
