Verdict: Vikram delivers an enigmatic performance in a role suited for him.

Kadaram Kondan, a remake of the iconic French movie Point Blank, is directed by Rajesh Selva and produced by the star of millions, Kamal Haasan. Covering the picturesque beauty of Malaysia, the movie does wonders with Srinivas’ cinematography. With music by Mohamaad Ghibran, Kadaram Kondan stars Vikram in the lead, who is back after Sketch and Sammy 2, in an enigmatic avatar. Supporting him are Abi Hassan, Akshara Haasan, Lena and Vikas who provide an experience of utmost thrills and chills.

KK (Vikram) is a gangster king in Malaysia with friends in high places. In an unfortunate incident, he is stabbed, hospitalized and convicted for the murder of a renowned industrialist. KK is fighting for his life in the hospital when the innocent doctor Vasu (Abi Hassan) and his pregnant wife Aathirah (Akshara Haasan) get embroiled in this murder mystey. KK is unaware of everything happening around him and must survive at any cost to bring out the real Kadaram Kondan in him.

The uniqueness of Kadaram Kondan can be only understood if you know the history behind the words. Many centuries ago, this was a title given to Virarajendra Chola who conquered the modern-day Kedah (part of Malaysia) around 1025 CE. KK in the film is a representation of Kadaram Kondan. He is the king of gangsters who defines the future of Malaysia while giving us a peep into how the mafia works in the country. The music blends with the flow of this unique plot, giving a serene touch to the otherwise rugged characters. Mystery is construed as the main theme here, leaving the audience wanting more after the first half of the movie. It’s only in the second half that the missing pieces of the plot are found and put together. Vikram is brilliant here and his stylish and mysterious look portrays both the hero and villain in him. The cinematography shows us many vibrant overhead shots of Malaysia. The camera work is commendable, especially the first shot that slowly moves the focus from the Twin Towers, which are an integral part of the story, to the window. The movie provides more thrills than needless punch lines, item numbers or romance. Vikram’s Kadaram Kondan focuses on one aim and accomplishes it with commendable performances and loads of high-octane action.

The mystery thriller can be ambiguous and the many twists could leave the audience confused in places. It is a Vikram movie through and through and the supporting actors do not have much to do.

Vikram fans, do not miss this chance to watch the actor on the big screen as he is back with lots of surprises and mystery in store for you. He is bound to win many hearts with his smart looks and style. This movie deserves a watch for the actor alone.
