Namma Veetu Pillai: Film Review – Back-to-back Family Drama

Verdict: Family drama is the core strength of Namma Veetu Pillai.

After achieving huge success with Kadaikutty Singam, Pandiraj has used the same technique to design this story of how simple and yet a complex a family is and what makes all the important qualities. This mass movie has produced by Kalanithi Maran, also known as the Television King of South India. The cinematography by Nirav Shah catches every single element from places to emotions, from characters to their feelings, with precision. The music by Ruben is so energizing that it leaves us rooting for the hero. With a stellar and strong cast comprising of Sivakarthikeyan, Aishwarya Rajesh, Anu Emmanuel, Bharathiraja, Samuthirakani, Soori, Yogi Babu, Aadukalam Naren, what more would any fan ask for in a movie.

What’s Namma Veetu Pillai About:

Namma Veetu Pillai is a classic family drama that aims at conveying the importance of every relationship. The story starts off with the introduction of the brother Arumpon (Sivakarthikeyan) and sister Thulasi (Aishwarya Rajesh) duo and what they mean to each other. Arumpon has always been protective of Thulasi. His only wish is to see her settled in a respectful family, which always leaves him worried. Like every other family, you will see the kind ones and the ones who are envious. Striking a balance between all, Arumpon is a perfect man, like his father. Meanwhile, Thulasi finally gets married to a ruffian who is in loggerheads with Arumpon. The consequences that follow thereafter dictate the direction of the plot.

What Works:

A nice, wholesome family drama is what the Tamil audiences have been waiting for after the recent movie Sivappu Manjal Pacha. Namma Veetu Pillai has drama, dappankuthu, vibrancy, natural performances, romance, emotions, unity and all are knitted into family values. The sister-brother combo does wonders with their bond, love, and support they showcase on-screen, throughout, right till the end. Pandiraj’s cast selection is as wonderful as ever and the makeover is what will leave you mesmerized. The cast looks perfect in their characters and you will never feel that they are not a part of the same family. Not just the looks, but also the language they speak has so much resemblance to that of the local accent. The movie is set in a quaint, green village that’s charming and breathtaking. Anu Emmanuel and Sivakarthikeyan’s romantic story in between gives the required kick to the plot. We see decent comic relief throughout the film, which makes it even more delightful. Bharathiraja as Arulmozhi is the key that holds all the characters together, like a pillar. Super funky music and some super heavy movements provide a break from the filmy drama. Action sequences and the way the fights have been shot are unforgettable.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The movie has everything in it but in surplus. If all the elements were balanced well, the movie would have reached new heights. The chemistry between Anu Emmanuel and Sivankarthikeyan is somewhat odd but doesn’t take away much from the movie, which is still a good one-time watch.

Why You Should Watch:

A movie made for the mass and that plugs in the voice of every strong emotion in the form of strong acting make this movie a must-watch. Take your family and experience the importance of the strong bond that brings about unity within the family.
