Bhaagamathie: Film Review – Anushka At Her Best

Verdict: Bhaagamathie will remain one of Anushka’s fabulous works!

The Anushka starrer film Bhaagamathie has been written and directed by G. Ashok and produced by V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod under UV Creations banner. We also have Unni Mukundan, Jayaram and Asha Sarath among the rest of the cast in prominent roles. The music and background score has been rendered by S.S. Thaman while cinematography has been handled by R. Madhi and Sushil Choudhary. Edited by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, Bhaagamthie is the third movie for director G. Ashok, after Pilla Zamindar and Sukumarudu. Since this movie comes after Baahubali, there is a palpable buzz surrounding this flick. The other reason may be attributed to the banner. All the movies that UV Creations produced so far have been safe bets. Releasing today as Republic Day special, let’s see what is in store for the audience watching Bhaagamathie.

What’s Bhaagamathie About:

Chanchala (Anushka Shetty) is an honest IAS officer who is arrested on charges of murdering Shakthi (Unni Mukundan), who is the brother of ACP Sampath (Murali Sharma). Eeshwar Prasad (Jayaram) is an honest politician and a minister at central cabinet who works for the welfare of the people. However, the higher members of the party want to falsely implicate him in a case pertaining to the robbery of antique idols. In this process, they plan to shift Chanchala to an unknown location and is interrogated by a CBI officer Vasihnavi Natarajan (Asha Sarath) who works as per the orders from the ruling party. Finally, they end up putting Chanchala in an old bungalow which they later realize as Bhaagamathie bungalow. What happens inside the bungalow? Did Chanchala really kill Shakti? To know all these and many more unexpected twists, one has to watch Bhaagamathie.

What Works:

Anushka Shetty is the USP of Bhaagamathie. She has nailed it in the role of Chanchala and Bhaagamathie. She is absolutely terrific and has given a top-notch performance. Unni Mukundan did a great job as Shakti. Jayaram, Murali Sharma and Asha excel in their respective roles. Prabhas Sreenu, Dhanraj and Vidhyullekha Raman succeed in their comedy portions. The background score is perfect and the cinematography is fantastic. The production values are grand. The direction and screenplay are praiseworthy while editing is crisp.

What Could Have Been Better:

If we were to nitpick – after building a wonderful hype for two hours, a small twist in the tale takes a slight back edge. But this is just a minor drawback that can easily be ignored.

Why You Should Watch:

Bhaagamathie is a wonderful horror and thriller entertainer with a splendid performance by Anushka, along with the rest of the cast. This is undoubtedly the best watch for this long weekend and can be enjoyed with friends and family alike. Go for it and you will not be disappointed.
