Verdict: Mass Maharaja shines in this genre and hits all the right chords.
After his blockbuster Raja The Great, Ravi Teja had to go through a lean phase of failures with Touch Chesi Choodu, Nela Ticket and Amar Akbar Anthony. He is now geared up to come back to form with Disco Raja – a sci-fi thriller, directed by Vi Anand, who earlier directed the blockbuster movie Ekkadiki Pothave Chinnavada. Also starring Nabha Natesh, Tanya Hope, Payal Rajput, Bobby Simha, Sunil, Venella Kishore and Naresh in prominent roles, the music is composed by S.S.Thaman and the cinematography is handled by Karthik Ghattamaneni. Let’s see what’s in store for the audience watching Mass Maharaja in a genre that has never been attempted by him before.
What’s Disco Raja About:
The story begins with scientists conducting a lab experiment to bring life back into brain-dead individuals. Vasu‘s (Ravi Teja) brain-dead body is found in Ladakh after he was murdered. As the doctors almost succeed in bringing back Vasu to life, he loses his memory in the process. What happens as he regains his memory and finds the people behind his murder forms the premise of Disco Raja.
Ravi Teja is full of energy throughout the movie and has nailed the performance with his trademark histrionics as and when the script demands it. Nabha Natesh is the pick of the lot among the leading ladies and has given a memorable performance. Payal Rajput is seen during the latter half and is pleasant in a short but important role. Director Vi Anand has outdone himself and his writing needs a special mention. The twists towards the interval and the climax surely take you off-guard. Abburi Ravi‘s dialogues added fuel to the fire. Thaman’s music and background score reach a different level and his amazing form gets better with every movie. Karthik’s visuals are a feast for the eyes and Shravan’s editing is perfect. The production design is commendable and every penny spent shows off on the screen.
What Could’ve Been Better:
While the movie starts off on a promising note, there seems to be a bit lag in the latter half, where the execution could have been better. However, the movie still doesn’t miss to be an engaging sci-fi thriller.
Why You Should Watch:
Disco Raja is an engaging thriller with a gripping screenplay, unexpected twists and a superb concept that is rarely touched in Telugu cinema. With Ravi Teja in the foray, the movie becomes more entertaining and enthralls all kinds of audiences. If you are a fan of the thriller genre, this one is not to be missed.
