Game Over is the bilingual (Tamil-Telugu) thriller which has also been dubbed in Hindi. Directed by Ashwin Saravanan, this film has Taapsee Pannu playing the lead role and is supported by Vinodhini, Anish, Sanchana, Ramya, and Parvathi. Bankrolled by YNot Studios and Reliance Entertainment, the film’s trailer caught attention online and has been buzzing in film circuits ever since. Let’s see how far the makers have succeeded in impressing the audience.
What’s Game Over About:
Swapna (Taapsee Pannu) lives with her maid Kalamma (Vinodhini Vaidyanathan) in Gurugram. She is a video game professional with suicidal tendencies and a haunted past. The reasons for her condition are revealed in layers throughout the movie. The first reason is a physical assault on her that took place at the previous New Year’s party. Secondly, her tattoo was created by mixing a deceased girl’s ashes with the ink. And last but the most dangerous of all, she is on the radar of a psychopath and serial killer who beheads women in the remote areas of Gurugram. All these are intertwined against the backdrop of a PacMan game. Whether Swapna manages to overcome her traumatic condition forms the crux of the story.
Ashwin Saravanan must be applauded for delivering a new-age thriller that is both engaging and intelligent. And who better than Taapsee can pull off the protagonist’s part? Her emotions are displayed with such conviction, that you feel happy when she is happy and scared when she is afraid. Carrying a film frame by frame on one’s shoulders is no mean feat and off late, Taapsee has made it a habit of picking up the right scripts and delivering them with finesse. Vinodhini Vaidyanathan is terrific in the supporting role. Ron Ethan Yohann’s sound design and background score are brilliant and for real-time experience, watch this film a theatre equipped with Dolby. Vasanth’s astounding camerawork is the MVP for Game Over. Richard Kevin’s sharp editing doesn’t let you blink your eyes for a moment. YNot Studios and Reliance Entertainment have made sure that every penny spent is apparent on screen.
