What’s Mahanati About:

The movie begins in the year 1980 with Savitri (Keerthy Suresh) being taken to the hospital. Madhuravani (Samantha Akkineni) is a reporter who was assigned the task of uncovering how Savitri went into a comatose state. Vijay Anthony (Vijay Devarakonda) is a photographer working for the same magazine. They both meet a cameraman (Naresh) to know more about Savitri. The movie then cuts to the early and late 40s, showcasing the life story of Savitri from her childhood until her death.

What Works:

Mahanati is undoubtedly a masterpiece and has all the makings of a film that will be remembered for a long time to come. Keerthy Suresh has breathed life into the character in the role of Savitri. It seems as if she was made to portray this role. She is elegant, ravishing and beautiful. Nag Ashwin’s direction needs a round of applause. It takes guts to envision the character of a legendary actress for a movie and Nagi has done it with élan. While the screenplay brought the narration of this biopic to life, Dani’s camera work is the soul. All the frames are captured with immense detailing set in various time periods. The music and the background score are excellent and the editing is top notch. Samantha Akkineni, Vijay Devarakonda, Rajendra Prasad and the rest of the cast are apt in the roles they played. The production values by Vyjayanathi Movies need  a special mention for believing in the biopic and spending every penny to get the desired output.

What Could Have Been Better:

Nothing. This is how a biopic should be made.

Why You Should Watch:

Mahanati is a must-watch for every movie lover. While walking through the life of the legendary actress, you will be a witness to the innocent soul of Savitri garu, a soul which finds happiness in the joy of giving.
