Verdict: Nagarjuna’s charm is the highlight of this well-knit hilarious entertainer.
The iconic Manmadhudu is remembered for its wonderful comedy, evergreen melodies, and some decent emotions. After 17 years, during which “Yuva Samrat” Nagarjuna has transformed to “King” Nagarjuna, the makers are now back with a sequel. The expectations are naturally humongous. Paired opposite Rakul Preet Singh and directed by Chi La Sow fame Rahul Ravindran, Manamadhudu 2 is touted to be an adaptation of the 2006 superhit French film, I Do. Impressed with its story, Nagarjuna bought the remake rights and roped in Rahul to tweak it for the Telugu audience. Bound to have comparisons, let’s see if Manmadhudu 2 lives up to the legacy of its original.
What’s Manmadhudu 2 About:
Sambasiva Rao alias Sam (Akkineni Nagarjuna) doesn’t believe in commitment or the institution of marriage after being heartbroken in the past. Unable to cope up with the pressure mounted on him to get married by his family members, Sam ropes in Avantika (Rakul Preet Singh) to act as his fiancé and ditch him during the wedding. However, there are surprises awaiting and what happens between the couple before the wedding forms the rest of the story.
Nagarjuna’s charm, Rakul Preet Singh’s effervescence and Vennela Kishore’s comedy are the major highlights of Manmadhudu 2. Nagarjuna has effortlessly portrayed a casanova, while Rakul Preet Singh shines in a strong and independent role. Vennela Kishore makes a huge impact as Sam’s friend and has equal footage as the protagonist. Lakshmi, Rao Ramesh, Jhansi and others are good in their parts. Cameos by Samantha Akkineni, Keerthy Suresh and Akshara Gowda come in the right places. Rahul Ravindran proves his mettle yet again after his debut and is now emerging more as a director than an actor. As the story is set in Portugal, M. Sukumar has taken full advantage of the beautiful scenery and his camera visuals are enticing. RX 100 fame Chaithan Bharadwaj has delivered yet another melodious album that gels well with the genre of the movie. Produced by Annapurna Studios and Manam Enterprises, the production values are top-notch.
What Could’ve Been Better:
As there are bound to be comparisons, Manmadhudu 2 certainly falls below the iconic Manmadhudu. Nevertheless, if you stop comparing, this one is certainly close to the current trend and may attract the youth. However, given the family fan following that Nagarjuna carries, the double meaning dialogues could have easily been avoided.
Why You Should Watch:
Manmadhudu 2 is a well-knit hilarious entertainer that has ample comedy and decent emotions. Added to it are the fascinating visuals, good melodies, decent message and a fine act by Nagarjuna, Rakul Preet and Venella Kishore. To sum up, these factors make Manmadhudu 2 a decent watch.
