The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is achingly sentimental, scattered and even downright silly. But it has a sweetness that gets inside your skin. Director John Madden and writer Ol Parker weave a maddeningly tangled web of plots and sub-plots. In fact, it climaxes in a joyous wedding and Bollywood dance – and you would have to be stone-hearted to not smile at the sight of Dame Judi Dench shaking it to Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Of course it takes a while to get here. First the permanent occupants of the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in Jaipur have to work out their love lives, sex lives, fears and frustrations. The old-timers have now settled in nicely.
