Artists of the South Indian film industry came together for the Lebara Natchathira (stars) Cricket League organised in Chennai by Nadigar Sangam/South Indian Artists Association (SIAA), for raising funds for construction of a building for it. The event was organised by the newly elected SIAA office bearers, including its President Nasser, General Secretary Vishal Reddy and Treasurer Karthi. The event was inaugurated by legends Rajinikanthand Kamal Haasan.
Eight teams battled it out in matches. The champions were Chennai Singams who were led by Suriya. Tanjore Rhinos led by Jiiva held the next position. Several celebrities from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries attended the gala event at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium at Chepauk in Chennai.
Telugu biggies including Balakrishna, Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, and Kannada actors Sudeep, Shivakumar, Ambareesh , along with Malayalam superstar Mammootty, and actor Nivin Pauly attended the event. The match was also graced by the lovely leading ladies of the South film industry – Tamannaah, Rakul Preet, Keerthy Suresh, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.
This match day was good news for members of the SIAA, as construction of their building was one of their long pending projects. The Nadigar Sangam (led by Sarathkumar) ran into a controversy last year, when the former SIAA office-bearers were accused of signing an agreement with realty developers for 'selling' the building, and converting it into a complex. After the new office-bearers were appointed, the agreement was cancelled. Here are some images from the event.
