10 South Indian Movies to Watch Out for in 2018!

As we are close to the end of the year 2016, which gave us movie lovers some big movies like Rajinikanth's gangster film KabaliVijay's Theri and Jr. NTR's Janatha Garage, we have made a list of some cracking movies that will be releasing in 2017. While we are yet to see some of the most anticipated South Indian films of 2016 like Surya's Singam 3 aka S3Arya's Kadamban and Ram Charan's Dhruva, let us have a look at some of the most massive films that we are looking forward to watching in 2017.

So go ahead and go through our list of movie and their estimated release dates. And remember that you read it here first. 


1. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

The sequel to the record-breaking hit of the 2015 movie Baahubali: The Beginning is probably the most anticipated movie of 2017. The movie will see the return of Prabhas and Rana Daggubati reprising their roles as Shivudu/Baahubali and Bhallaladeva respectively, in a much meaner and stronger look. The trailer for this movie will no doubt break all records. Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is slated for release in April 2017 and will finally reveal why Kattappa killed Baahubali. 

2. Khaidi No. 150

Chiranjeevi will be seen back on the movie screen after a long gap in the Telugu movie Khaidi No. 150 directed by V V Vinayak, which is the megastar's 150th movie. Khaidi No. 150 is a remake of the Tamil movie Kaththi (2014) directed by AR Murugadoss starring Vijay. The movie is all set for a January 2017 release and will cater to the craze for Chiru's dance moves. Kajal Aggarwal is also part of the film. The cast and crew currently are busy shooting the songs in the exotic locations of Europe.

3. Katamarayudu

The Pawan Kalyan starrer Telugu movie Katamarayudu, directed by Kishore Kumar, is slated for a March 2017 release. The movie also stars Shruti Haasan and is a remake of the Tamil movie Veeram (2014). On the 46th birthday of the star on September 2nd, the producer Sharath Marar took to Twitter to wish the actor and also released the title poster. 

4. Spyder

Mahesh Babu collaborates for the first time with Director AR Murugadoss for the spy-thriller titled Spyder. The bilingual film is reported to release this Dussehra in both Telugu and Tamil. Rakul Preet Singh is the female lead in the film and the music department is being handled by Harris Jayaraj.

5. Dhruva Natchathiram

The insanely handsome tamil actor Chiyaan Vikram will be seen in the upcoming spy-thriller Dhruva Natchathiram. Directed by Gautham Menon, Vikram will be seen playing many characters as seen from the many character posters and the teasers released sometime back. His character names are John, Joshua and Dhruv. Vikram's character John  heads the Indian covert unit and are on a mission to rescue Mr. K from the bad guy Darkman, who plays the role of Mr. K and Darkman? We still have no clue. 

Dhruva Natchathiram also stars Ritu Varma and Aishwarya Rajesh.

Vikram will also be soon seen in the movie Sketch, the release date however is still under wraps.

6. Mersal

Yup, this is the name of Vijay's 61st film. After keeping the title under wraps for the longest time it was revealed last evening on social media. Directed by Atlee, this movie was tentatively titled as Vijay61 and Thalapathy61. The Vijay-Atlee duo returns after the immense success of the blockbuster hit Theri. The first look poster was released a day before Ilayathalapathy Vijay's birthday and shows him in a traditional look with the playful smile that we all have come to love. He seems to be playing Jallikattu, the traditional Tamil sport that was in the news this year for the mass uproar it had created.

The second look is completely different from the first and shows him in a much serious look.

The leading ladies of the film are Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

The music for the film will be handled by the maestro A.R. Rahman and the audio will be launched in August.

Mersal is slated to have a October release and we can't wait to watch what this amazing combo of Vijay-Atlee-AR Rahman have in store for us! This will be the second film for the actor this year after Bairavaa.

7. Vishwaroopam 2

The sequel to the 2013 superhit Vishwaroopam was earlier reported to be released in 2016 but according to recent reports, the Kamal Haasan movie has been pushed to 2017. 

8. Velaiyilla Pattathari 2

Dhanush recently announced the sequel of his 2014 movie, which will be directed by his sister-in-law Soundarya Rajinikanth, who made her directorial debut with the 2014 movie Kochadaiiyaan. VIP2 will be a bilingual movie being made in Tamil and Telugu.

9. Vada Chennai

From the looks of it, 2017 may be all about Dhanush as he has another Tamil movie titled Vada Chennai expected to release in 2017. Directed by Vetrimaaran, the movie is reported to be a story of 30 years in the life of a gangster and will be a multistarrer as reports suggest Vijay Sethupathi will also be playing an important role.

Besides these Tamil movies, 2017 will also see the spy-thriller movie starring Ajith in the lead role titled Vivegam. Fans were calling this movie Thala 57


10. Lucifer

Lucifer, starring Mohanlal in the lead, will be the most anticipated Malayalam film in 2017 not only because it has Mohanlal playing the lead role but also because this movie will mark the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. With two of the biggest stars of Mollywood coming together in a project, this movie is set to be the movie to watch out for in 2017.

11. Villain

Villain is another Malayalam movie starring Mohanlal that fans will be waiting eagerly for to catch FDFS. The teaser of the film was released and it looks to be a crime-thriller with Mohanlal beating up people in order to solve this.


The film also stars Manju WarrierHansika Motwani,Vishal, Raashi Khanna, Renji Panicker, Aju Varghese and Siddique. The film is rumoured to have a July release. The teaser which was released on 27th April garnered 1 million views within three hours. Villain is India's first film to be completely filmed and released in 8k resolution.

12. My Story

My Story - BookMyShow

Prithviraj and Parvathy will be seen together once again in a Malayalam movie after their blockbuster hit movie Ennu Ninte Moideen. My Story, which is expected to release next year, will be directed by debutant Director Roshni Dinaker.


Kannada Films 2017 - BookMyShow

13. Rajakumara

Sandalwood hero Puneeth Rajakumar will be seen in a Kannada movie in 2017 which also star Priya Anand. The movie is directed by Santhosh Anandram of the Mr and Mrs Ramachari fame.

14. KGF

Kannada rocking star Yash will be seen in the movie KGF directed by Prashanth Neel of Ugramm fame next year. Yash's previous movie Santhu Straight Forward fared well at the box office. 

15. Tagaru

The movie directed by Suri will have Shivarajkumar and Manvitha Harish in the lead role.
