The 48-day long strike that Tamil film fans all over were waiting to end has finally been called off. The Tamil film industry strike due to the standoff between Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and cinema theatres in Tamil Nadu over Virtual Print Fees (VPF) forced filmmakers to push their movies for later. And after 48 days, movies like Kaala, Diya (earlier known as Karu), and others are gearing up for release soon.

Here is a list of Tamil films that you should get totally excited for:


Earlier titled as Karu, this Sai Pallavi and Naga Shaurya film is finally getting ready for its release this 27th of April.

The film is releasing Telugu too but is titled as Kanam. Diya will be Sai Pallavi's Tamil debut and is based on the theme of abortion. Diya is a women-centric film directed by AL Vijay which focuses on the relationship between a mother and her child. Bhaskar Oru Rascal

In this action-comedy, Arvind Swamy and Amala Paul play the role of single parents whose kids are friends in school. How these two parents with strikingly different personalities come together forms the plot of this hilarious film. Definitely one of the most-awaited South Indian films of the year 2018, Kaala stars Rajinikanth in the titular role. The film was earlier set to release in April 2018 but owing to the film industry strike, the film is now set to release on 7th June, 2018. 

Kaala will be a mass treat for Thalaivar Fans and will release worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. Produced by his son-in-law Dhanush, Kaala also stars Nana Patekar, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, and Samuthirakani among others. The film is directed by Pa. Ranjith, who earlier directed Rajinikanth in the film Kabali (2016). The actor, as seen from the teaser and poster, looks to be playing the role of a don based in Mumbai. The style and swag that Rajinikanth oozes in each scene in the teaser proves why he is known as the Thalaivar.

After the immense success of Thupparivaalan, actor Vishal is back with his new release – Irumbuthirai. The film is based on the issue of identity theft and he plays the role of Army Major R. Kathiravan while Arjun Sarja plays the antagonist called 'White Devil'. The film also stars Samantha Akkineni and is directed by P.S. Mithran. The film is also releasing in Telugu as Abhimanyudu.

Vishwaroopam 2
Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan will be looking forward to finally release the sequel to his 2013 film Vishwaroopam. There are rumors that the trailer will be released on 27th April, 2018 and we bet you can't wait to see what Kamal Haasan has in store for us. Nadigaiyar Thilagam

This film will give us a look into the life and relationship of one of the most controversial and popular couples – Gemini Ganesan and Savitri. Playing the role of Savitri will be Keerthy Suresh and Dulquer Salmaan will be playing the role of Gemini Ganesan. Samantha Akkineni and Vijay  Devarkonda will also be starring in the film. It is also releasing in Tamil with a different title – Mahanti. The film will hit the big screen on the 9th of April. Are you excited? Of course, you are.
