Teachers have been our best guides after our parents. They’re always there, they always look out for us, and don’t mind telling us off. Over the course of time, they’ve given our favorite film characters a much-needed pep talk. From funny to dramatic to motivating, these men and women have taught, inspired and changed countless lives. And so, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, we got a little nostalgic and decided to compile a few of the best quotes from our favorite fictional teachers. And for all you Potterheads out there, we included a Dumbledore quote as well.

Robin Williams – Dead Poets Society:
“Go on, lean in. Listen. You hear it? Carpe—hear it? Carpe, carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.”
Richard Harris – Harry Potter:
“Dark times lie ahead of us, and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
Jack Black – School of Rock:
“Now raise your goblet of rock. It’s a toast to those who rock!”
Hilary Swank – Freedom Writers:
“I see who you are. Do you understand me? I can see you. And you are not failing.”
Samuel L. Jackson – Coach Carter:
“l came to coach basketball players, and you became students. l came to teach boys, and you became men.”
So, for those of you who haven’t wished your teacher a happy teachers’ day, now’s the time. Go ahead, pick up that phone, call them and make their day.
