Marvel surely knows how to beat severe Monday blues. The Thor: Ragnarok teaser trailer is out (yes, they couldn't decide whether it's a teaser or a trailer) and it looks as if all is not well in the nine realms. The previous instalments of this series were too Godly for people's taste although they were well made. We enjoyed the two movies dedicated to the great Asgardian sibling rivalry, now it seems like there is time for something more.
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is entering into Phase III and it is time to connect Guardians of the Galaxy with the rest of the Avengers. Thor is the only link they have and hence, it is no surprise that the third and maybe the final instalment of this movie will make it happen. Ragnarok in the comics is the storyline that marks the end of Asgardian Gods. With a such a grim subject, it is no surprise that the trailer gets a chuckle out of you. That is the Marvel signature style after all. Here are seven things that impressed us in the teaser trailer.
Loki (Tom Hiddleston) until now has retained his title of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Hela, who in another version of Ragnarok was his daughter, is all set to change that. Played by Cate Blanchett, Hela looks all set to wreak havoc. She holds the power to destroy Mjölnir, which was something even the Hulk couldn't attempt. In the comic lore, she is the Goddess of Death and leads the realms of Hel and Niflheim. Her costume with her horned helmet is something we would definitely want to see more of. Apart from being the first female villain in MCU, she is certainly going to be one of the top.
A thing that we have missed severely when we saw Thor on-screen was his helmet. It has been worn a few times into battles but always conveniently got lost as we saw Thor's tresses in their full glory. Now that the tresses have gone (and he looks all the more dapper without them), the helmet has surely made a much-welcome return. Loki, not the one to be outshined has also donned his helmet but more on him later.
We are still not sure where his loyalties lie (and we can never be). But we do see him embarking on a battle with some cool blade moves since the scepter is nowhere to be seen. It looks like the movie is going to be action-filled with everyone getting their fair share of moves to show off.
The Hulk Armor that resonates with the storyline Planet of Hulk is a treat to watch live. This is not the first time the Hulk and Thor are going to fight but this time the trusted Mjölnir is not in the picture thanks to Hela.
The Grandmaster and others
We see a glimpse of Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster who is one of the elders of the Universe and who enjoys his gambling and fights a little too much. We also see Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who works for him and she is the one who presents Thor as a contender for the fight. Heimdall (Idris Elba) also makes an appearance as he seems to be fighting Hela's minions.
As we all know, Ragnarok is the time when Asgard is annihilated and we see the beginning of that as Asgardian soldiers stand bravely against Hela and the destruction as it seeps through the golden city.
As dark as the subject is, this movie will not be. As the trailer suggests there will be a lot of wisecracks and humor.
Taika Waititi as a director is certainly going to leave a mark as we saw one of the best trailers of MCU using Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song. The background adds to each character reveal and it couldn't have been better chosen. Have you seen the trailer yet? Watch it below and share this article among the Marvel fans you know.
