Bollywood is not just about films but is a cultural phenomenon by itself. We Indians just love watching everything larger than life on the silver screen. It very well satiates our cinematic appetite. From the making of superstars to evergreen songs and dances to iconic villains, everything about Bollywood never fails to entertain.

Similarly, one such fascinating element introduced by Bollywood is the casting of male pairs in movies. Jay-Veeru in Sholay became one of the most influential trendsetters and what we saw in the following years was a lot of such buddy movies being centred around male friendship and brotherhood.

Today, as we remember those popular buddies from the past, let’s just imagine

who will replace those actors if the films were to be made now.

Film- Sholay (1975)

Characters – Jay and Veeru

Contemporary Choice – Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan

This could be one of the most awaited projects if the two mighty Khans were to become Jay and Veeru on screen. Just imagine the two riding a bike singing Ye Dosti Hum Nai Todenge. Well, can’t imagine? Not your fault. We get it.

Film- Ram Lakhan (1989)

Characters – Ram and Lakhan

Contemporary Choice – Sidharth Malhotra and Ranveer Singh

Ram Lakhan featured one of Anil Kapoor’s finest performances as Lakhan, the gullible yet street smart prankster. Who else but Ranveer Singh can do full justice to such a role in today’s time? He is the perfect choice for the role. Well, for Jackie Shroff’s character – Ram – we could have Sidharth Malhotra, who with his endearing charm, can pull off the sensible police officer’s role with ease.

Film- Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994)

Characters – Inspector Karan and Deepak Kumar

Contemporary Choice – Fawad Khan and Ranbir Kapoor

Though we have our doubts of Fawad Khan being able to return to B-Town, there is no harm in assuming him to play Inspector Karan (Akshay Kumar). Well, the perfect contemporary actor to match up to Saif Ali Khan’s antics as Deepak Kumar in the film is definitely Ranbir Kapoor.

Film- Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Characters – Amar and Prem

Contemporary Choice – Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor

One can never get enough of Amar-Prem’s sweet-sour camaraderie on screen. Amar Prem’s prem has indeed become amar in Bollywood’s history. Our pick, if ever the film has to be remade, will be Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor without any discussion. The duo’s fiery yet adorable chemistry we all have seen already in Koffee With Karan episodes and would like to see more of it.

Film- Karan Arjun (1995)

Characters – Karan and Arjun

Contemporary Choice – Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan

The handsome hunk Varun Dhawan and the intense looking Sidharth Malhotra will not just make the film interesting but also raise temperatures with oodles of glam quotient. We wonder who would play Rakhee’s character delivering the iconic dialogue "Mere Karan Arjun aayenge".
