Bollywood movies have always shown us the world. A few filmmakers have their favorite locations that make way in almost every film of theirs. Some try to explore the unknown.
As far as the audience is concerned, the films have become a way to see the world in a small way. We saw Switzerland with Yash Chopra, we saw London with Karan Johar and Imtiaz Ali made us see different parts of Europe. This year, Bollywood explores parts of our own country that we haven’t seen before.
1. Laila Majnu – Chandanwari
‘Laila Majnu’ is Imtiaz Ali‘s brother, Sajid Ali’s first movie. Imtiaz has written the film and this time he has collaborated with producer Ekta Kapoor for the first time. The film is based in modern day Kashmir and has been extensively shot in Chandanwari, close to the Amarnath Yatra base camp and in the dense forest of Pir Panjal.
2. Batti Gul Meter Chalu -Tehri
After Haider, Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor reunite for ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. The movie is directed by Shree Narayan Singh and focuses on the electricity problems faced by the folks in Tehri. The movie is being shot in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tehri, Mussoorie, and Nainital.
3. Raazi– Doodhpathri
Meghna Gulzar‘s adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel, ‘Calling Sehmat’ is Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt‘s first film together. It is also the first movie to be shot in Doodhpatri (Valley of Milk) in Kashmir’s Budgam district. Dodhpatri remains inaccessible for 5-6 months throughout the year owing to heavy rainfall. Apart from that, the movie is also been shot at Nabha and Malerkotla — two historically significant towns in Punjab from the British Raj.
4. Super 30– Sambhar
The biopic starring Hrithik Roshan was shot in a lake town, Sambhar in Rajasthan. Hrithik Roshan’s look as a rural Math professor is refreshing. In the film though, the town will be passed off as Kota.
5. Stree– Chanderi
“We literally took over the small and colourful town and were enthusiastically welcomed into the houses of the weavers and tailors. With its hills, narrow lanes, rivers and desert, Chanderi makes for spectacular visuals,”
As the movie title suggests, Sara Ali Khan‘s debut in the industry alongside Sushant Singh Rajput will be revolving around Kedarnath. Sushant plays a pilgrim carrier and Sara plays a tourist. It is being shot near the Garhwal Himalayan range, near River Mandakini, the temple of Kedarnath can be reached after an 18-km trek from Gaurikund.
7. Navdeep Singh‘s next- Desuri
Navdeep Singh, the director who has previously worked on NH10 with Anushka Sharma is filming a historical drama with Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. The film is said to be shot in Desuri, a village in Rajasthan’s Pali District boasts of many Shiva temples and the Kumbhalgarh National Park.
8. Dhadak – Amer
Ishaan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor will be making their debut in ‘Dhadak’ which is a remake of the acclaimed Marathi film ‘Sairat’. The filming started in December 2017 in Amer, near Jaipur in Rajasthan.
