When it comes to fate, nothing is explainable. We think that we understand the universe but in reality, the universe keeps baffling us. A similar story goes back to the time when Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for his film Coolie and suffered a near-fatal accident during the shooting of an action scene in Bangalore on July 27, 1982.

The accident that caused him an almost fatal abdominal injury took several months for him to recover. At one point he was declared ‘clinically dead’ by the doctors, post rupturing his intestine. He then revived on August 2.

The Coolie accident is by far one of the most dreadful on-set accidents Bollywood remembers, with the whole country praying for Big B while he was in the hospital.

Amitabh Bachchan shared a short story surrounding that incident at the launch of Maithili Rao’s book – “Smita Patil: A Brief Incandescence”.

“I was in Bangalore shooting for ‘Coolie’ once. Late into the night at around 2 am I received call in my hotel room. The receptionist informed me that it was Smita Patil on the line. I was shocked as I had never spoken or talked to her at such a time. Thinking that it would be an important one, I answered,” Bachchan said.

“Smita asked me if I was alright and in good health. I answered yes and she said that she just had a bad dream about me and that’s the reason behind calling up so late in the night. The next day I had my accident,” he said.

A similar situation happened a few days back when Amitabh Bachchan tweeted about feeling uneasy, a few hours before Sridevi breathed her last. Sometimes, premonitions happen and they just happen to send shivers down our spine.
