2019 has been a blockbuster year as far as good animated movies were concerned. We had Toy Story 4 in the lead among the highest-grossing animated films, followed by Frozen 2 that is still running in theatres. Some other noteworthy mentions include The Secret Life of Pets 2, The Addams Family, and Weathering With You. If you thought 2019 was big, 2020 is going to be even bigger and better with these animated movies coming your way:


Gear up to see the beloved Scooby-Doo and Shaggy team up for an all-new adventure with the gang. The trailer gives us a glimpse into how Scoob and Shaggy (Will Forte) met and how they eventually teamed up with Fred (Zac Efron), Daphne (Amanda Seyfried), and Velma (Gina Rodriguez). Frank Welker is back to lend his voice for Scooby. Get ready to go on a mysterious adventure with them on May 15.


Set in a world of fantasy where magic is sparse, two elf brothers find a spell that can bring their father back to life for 24 hours. However, the spell goes wrong and now they have only 24 hours to fix it. This takes Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland) and Barley Lightfoot (Chris Pratt) on a magical and extraordinary journey that will come to theatres on March 06.

Trolls World Tour

This movie is a sequel to Trolls and the story follows Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) on their wild and rocking journey to unite five troll tribes, each devoted to a different genre of music against the leader of the Rock tribe, Queen Barb. Queen Barb has only one agenda and that is to destroy all other kinds of music and let rock reign supreme. The movie hits theatres sometime in April.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

This is the first SpongeBob film that will be fully animated in stylized CG instead of traditional 2D animation. This story follows SpongeBob and Patrick on a mission to rescue Gary who has been “snailnapped”. The movie will also reveal how SpongeBob and Gary met when they were kids. Get ready to meet the gang in theatres on May 22.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

This movie is a sequel to Minions and a prequel to the Despicable Me franchise. We don’t know much about the plot of the film or the cast yet. However, this Kyle Balda directorial is set to release on July 03.

The Croods 2

This film is a sequel to hit film Croods and will mark the return of Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, and Catherine Keener. In addition, we will also get to see Peter Dinklage and Leslie Mann join this star cast. The plot of this film follows the Croods who are now challenged by a rival family – the Bettermans – who claim to be more evolved.


Soul is Pixar’s first movie featuring a black lead voiced by Jamie Foxx. The plot follows Joe Gardner, a teacher whose real passion is playing jazz. Unfortunately, just after Gardner scores a sweet jazz gig, he falls into a manhole and ends up in a mystical place where he is just a soul. Directed by Pete Docter, Soul is all set to release on June 19.

Raya and the Last Dragon

This Disney film takes us on a journey to a re-imagined Earth inhabited by an ancient civilization wherein a warrior named Raya is determined to find the last dragon. The film features the voices of Cassie Steele and Awkwafina and will hit the big screen on November 25.
