Luc Besson's last directorial - Lucy - was an action-thriller starring Scarlett Johansson. The film, which was made on a modest budget, was a roaring success. Now, the director is back with the sci-fi movie – Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan play the characters, Laureline and Valerian respectively while Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, and Clive Owen are a part of the supporting cast.
The Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets trailer was out eight months ago and it met with mixed reactions. The CGI seemed to be spot on but the lead actress Cara Delevingne’s acting abilities faced criticism. She was previously seen in Suicide Squad and is better known as a model than an actor. Once the movie it out, we hope she proves his critics wrong. Dane DeHaan, on the other hand, is best known for his portrayal as Jesse in the HBO series In Treatment and for a few Indie films.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is set in the 28th century where two special operatives have to maintain law and order in the city of Alpha. A dark force threatens to destroy the metropolis and now it's up to Valerian and Laureline to save the human race and the universe from complete destruction. The movie has been made on a mammoth budget of nearly 200 million dollars, so it has to do extraordinary business in order to recover the costs. Will the movie manage to well with stiff competition from Dunkirk and War for the Planet of the Apes? Check this space to find out.
