After Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the reboot franchise of the movie series is making a return as a much-awaited return as a summer blockbuster with War for the Planet of the Apes releasing on July 14, 2017.
Director: Matt Reeves
Cast: Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steven Zahn, Judy Greer, Amiah Miller, Terry Notary, Karin Konoval
Matt Reeves is returning as a director again for War for the Planet of the Apes. While Rise of the Planet of the Apes had rested on James Franco, the reboot franchise has since established itself in Hollywood on its own merit. The second movie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, showed us apes getting more aggressive and organized under the leadership of Caesar, voiced by Andy Serkis.
This time in War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar's apes will be facing a formidable army of humans. The human army is led by a ruthless Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson. Caesar has been the voice of reason in the previous movies. But now that he starts losing the ones close to him, Caesar will be struggling with his darker side. War for the Planet of the Apes will be showing both sides – apes and humans – as both the good and the bad guys. From the new War for the Planet of the Apes trailer, there is also a new character introduced to the series – Nova, who is played by Amiah Miller. Nova is a little girl who we see hanging out with the apes and being especially friendly with the returning character, Maurice.
Special effects are also going to be a treat. With the years it has taken for War of the Planet of the Apes, the makers have made sure that no CGI looks out of place. Even apes riding on horses and handling weapons are going to look realistic enough to make you wonder how they don't do it already.
Emotions will be running at an all-time high in this third installment. It's bigger than ever before. From its humble beginnings in 2011, the blockbuster series is a must-watch for many. Even though it might be science-fiction, War for the Planet of the Apes will capture the realities of actual war, from personal conflicts to large-scale planning that takes to consciously kill the other side on a large scale.
