Mumbai Film and Comic Con 2014: What Did You Miss?

Darth Vader, Batman and Naruto walk into a bar. What happens next? All the nerds and comic fanboys convulse, and drop dead.

This is what happened at Mumbai Film and Comic Convention 2014, or MFCC as it was trending on various social sites. To the uninitiated, Comic Con is a hub for comics, zombie movies, dress-up, TV shows, science-fiction, fantasy and books and comics.

From Lord of The Rings, to Batman and the Joker, MFCC had it all. With a panel of distinguished guests that included huge names like Dan Goldman, Nicolas Wild, Nick Spencer and Mark Gatiss (co-creator of Sherlock and Doctor Who), the convention was an absolute blast to be at.

A three day extravaganza, from 19th December to 21st December, 2014, MFCC had the biggest line up of pop culture, publishers, artists, experiential zones, launches and many more. Moreover, there was a cosplay contest with some amazing fans dressing up as their favorite comic characters! Needless to say, Comic Con Mumbai was an absolutely amazing experience, which had us captivated at every step.

However, for the nincompoop who did not attend, here are plenty of reasons as to why you should have been there:

The Viral Fever, performing live!

One of the biggest highlights of MFCC 2014 was The Viral Fever, performing live. With their zany humor and hilarious antics on stage, they had us in splits in no time!

Screening of Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary Special

MFCC also witnessed something legendary- the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who: An Adventure in Space and Time, which was both superbly entertaining and a tear jerker, at the same time. GERONIMO!

Japanese Cosplayers Miya and Shiguma

All the way from Osaka, Japan, world famous cosplayers Miya and Shiguma were a part of the MFCC experience, and had us raving about their mind-blowing costumes!

MARK GATISS from Sherlock!

All of the Sherlock fanboys and fangirls went ballistic as soon as Mycroft aka Mark Gatiss came to MFCC! With his trademark British wit and inimitable sense of style, Gatiss had us clamoring for a glimpse.

Epic Cosplayers from all over the world!

The biggest attraction of any Comic Con is the cosplayers- the ones who put their heart and soul into making absolutely amazing costumes. We saw Jokers, Narutos, Sheldons, Harry Potters, Gokus and so many others, who had us going cray-cray!

The Cosplay contest for Day 1 was won by Groot, Day 2 by Ultramine and Day 3 by Green Goblin. They will all be going to the Oz Comic Con in Sydney!

An exclusive screening and rendezvous with the cast of Bahubali!

The comic fanatics also got a chance to watch the suave and charming Rana Daggubati, as he unveiled the making of the upcoming mythical war drama, Bahubali!

The Star Wars and The Avengers Zones!

This is where we had chills. With the theme from Star Wars blaring in the distance, and lightsaber wielding jedis, The Star Wars zone was where we felt the force. If you’re an ignoramus, you missed something that you could have officially bragged about:  gigantic statues of some of the Avengers- Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America!

Amazing Fan Merchandise and Unique Stalls!

What would Comic Con be without comics, action figures, posters and all that jazz? MFCC has a huge playground, and the stalls had some amazing merchandise, including unique artwork, indie comics, vintage comics, paintings and so much more!

And last but not the least.

Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, live!

With a Skype session with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss live, all the Sherlock fans were in a tizzy. We witnessed what actually went behind the scenes, and found out why Benedict Cumberbatch was chosen to play the famed sleuth.

And with that, the city’s biggest and the only comic convention ended on a successful note, making it one of the best week-ends for the comic aficionados!
