You can never underestimate the power of a good soundtrack. If chosen wisely, the score and the soundtrack can elevate a scene (or an entire show) to a whole new level! Though movie soundtracks get their fair share of recognition, their small-screen counterparts are largely ignored. If you love good music and good TV, here are 10 TV shows with amazing soundtracks that are right up your alley:

Sons of Anarchy

If you have your doubts about the Sons of Anarchy soundtrack, just listen to the show’s theme song and prepare to be blown away! Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers’ This Life is the perfect theme for the show, and for any SOA-inspired bike trips that may follow!

Highlights: Bird on the Wire by Leonard Cohen, Been Away Too Long by Soundgarden, SuperLove by Charli XCX

Yo Gabba Gabba

Anyone who isn’t familiar with Yo Gabba Gabba might be surprised to see the show’s name on this list. However, if you’ve actually listened to Super Music Friends, you know better than to judge a soundtrack album by its name! After all, the album features stellar acts like MGMT, Solange and The Roots, to name a few!

Highlights: Art Is Everywhere by MGMT, Nice ‘N Clean by Chromeo, Happy Birthday by The Ting Tings

Freaks and Geeks

When a show starts off with Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation, you know it’s going to have an amazing soundtrack. This was exactly the case with Freaks and Geeks, which featured some of the best classic rock tunes! Bands like The Who, Queen, Van Halen and KISS are just a few of our favorites featured on the show!

Highlights: White Room by Cream, Tom Sawyer by Rush, Fashion by David Bowie

Though it might be a little too early to put Forever on this list, it looks like the show’s soundtrack might surpass our expectations. Forever features tunes that are powerful in their simplicity and fit in perfectly with each scene. Don’t believe us? Just listen to some of the highlights!

Highlights: No Rest For the Wicked by Lykke Li, Share Your Love With Me by Aretha Franklin, My One And Only Love by Sarah Vaughan

We’ll be the first to admit that Shameless isn’t exactly a brilliant TV show. What it is, however, is a gold mine of some of the best songs on TV. The series has featured some of the best mainstream and indie acts currently on the scene. This includes (but is not limited to) tunes by Paw City, ZZZ Ward, Charli XCX and Gauntlet Hair.

Highlights: Sleep Forever by Portugal. The Man, Wait Up (Boots of Danger) by Tokyo Police Club, Whole Shebang by Wavves

If you love fast-paced drama and indie rock, you’re bound to love Suits. The only thing better than the plot has got to be the show’s soundtrack. You don’t need to watch more than a few minutes to know that. Even Suits‘ cold opening features tunes that perfectly set the scene for the whole episode.

Highlights: Oxford Comma by Vampire Weekend, Love Like A Sunset, Pt. I by Phoenix, Sacrilege by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

How to Get Away With Murder

Even though it’s been less than a season since the show has been on air, How to Get Away With Murder has certainly made a lasting impression. With the perfect blend of great acting, crisp dialogues and a remarkable plot, it was hard not to. One thing we didn’t anticipate, though, was just how amazing the soundtrack would be!

Highlights: Dark and Stormy by Hot Chip, Love Runs Out by OneRepublic, Tumbling Lights by The Acid

Mad Men

As much as we love the songs featured on the Mad Men soundtrack, it’s their placement in the show that truly makes them stand out. The show incorporates the best tunes from the time period, making it feel authentic without ever being cheesy. This, combined with the perfect background score, made the show a delight for every music lover.

Highlights: Shahdaroba by Roy Orbison, Bleecker Street by Simon & Garfunkel, My Way by Frank Sinatra

Girls may be pretentious and mildly annoying, but if there’s one thing the show gets right, it’s the music. It features music by Cat Power, Beck, Jake Bugg and Oasis, among many others. No matter what genre you like, the Girls soundtrack has something you will enjoy!

Highlights: I Get Ideas by M. Ward, Dancing On My Own by Robyn, Infinity Guitars by Sleigh Bells

Chuck and Sarah have got to be one of our favorite TV couples, and for good reason! After all, it isn’t everyday that you see a will-they-won’t-they story that’s done so well… Especially one that involves the CIA! What made their chemistry so remarkable? Though the acting and plot were largely responsible, the soundtrack certainly helped!

Highlights: Challengers by The New Pornographers, Don’t Look Back In Anger by Oasis, Bite Hard by Franz Ferdinand

The Wire

If you haven’t watched The Wire yet, you should change that immediately. Don’t just take our word for it, though. The show has an IMDb rating of 9.4! As if the camera work, the performances and the script were not enough, The Wire also has a stellar soundtrack to boot!

Highlights: Refugee by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jail Break by Thin Lizzy, Have You Ever Seen the Rain? by Joan Jett
